So now that we’ve got an initial look at the new CFB 12 team playoff what are your thoughts? My initial reaction is all of the bowl games outside of the playoff games have now become meaningless. And the idea of conference affiliations is cool but no one cares. It’s fight for a spot in the 12 and nothing else matters from then on. Good for Ga winning the SEC champ. It’s a nice trophy to add and a banner to drop but no one cares. Maybe id feel different if we won but honestly i wasn’t hurt by the loss know we’d still be the playoff. It will be interesting to see what adjustments are made to make anything outside the 12, regardless of conference affiliations or championships credible and worthwhile.

Bowl games matter for a few reasons.
1. Extra practices for the young guys. No amount of money can replace that.
2. Teams on the come up, use that as momentum for next year to catapult into the playoffs.
3. Draft status. There will be players who had a "ho-hum" season that light it up in the bowl game and seriously bump their draft status. You watch.
4. Coaches bonus. Some coaches have win clause bonuses on their contract. "Win 10 games, get $$$$$".
5. Recruiting/transfer portal- it gives guys one more chance to look and see of your program is a good fit for them (staying, leaving, or coming in). Kids are getting pretty minutiae driven these days.
6. Bowl revenue-- not just for the school and conference, but a win at a bowl game helps pressing the flesh with big boosters go a little easier.
"Ya, we didn't make the playoffs, but look at that bowl win!. We're SO CLOSE. We just need a little extra from your big bank account and we can get there."
7. And it's sad I put this last.... but.... fvcking pride. You play to win the game.

College playoffs ok let's talk about game #1 Boise State/Penn State. Let me say at the beginning I did not see Boise play a whole game I only saw highlights. That being said what I saw was Ashton Jeanty. I thought he was a between the tackles guy. But he can bounce off tacklers with ease and can get around the corner. And he's faster than I thought. But I don't know much about their defense. If anybody has really seen Boise please give me some thoughts.

As for their competition fu&k Penn State.

Some thoughts. There's this guy with a YouTube podcast named Josh Pate. He said today that things could go great for Boise or bad for Boise. How perceptive. ESPN has talked at considerable length that Penn State has never lost a Fiesta bowl but neither has Boise they're 3/0. The broncos will always have a special place in my heart because they beat Oklahoma in the fiesta bowl on a statue of liberty play. But only Arizona State has lower odds to win than Boise. Go broncos
