UT release below:

OMAHA, Neb. – Sophomore left tackle Connor Williams was named a semifinalist for the 2016 Outland Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Wednesday night. Williams is one of just five players nationally to be recognized as a semifinalist.

Following up an impressive freshman campaign where he started all 12 games and earned Freshman All-America honors, Williams has started all nine games in which he has played in this season. He has allowed just one sack, that coming on a QB scramble against California. Additionally, Williams has committed just two penalties in over 700 offensive snaps this season.

Williams, who has graded over 90% four times this season, has totaled 24 knockdowns in just nine games. He has paved the way for the nation’s leading rusher, D’Onta Foreman, who is averaging 179.2 yards per game on the ground. Texas’ offense, behind Williams’ stellar play, is one of just four FBS schools averaging 500 yards of total offense with at least 260 yards per game through the air and 225 yards per game on the ground.

The five semifinalists will be whittled down to three finalists and announced on Tues., Nov. 22, during The Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Special, starting at 2 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The winner of the 2016 Outland Trophy will be announced Thurs., Dec. 8 on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN, the main show beginning at 6 p.m. CT, live from the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
