Could This Be

The fluke year like the year that VY took them all the way? Got this feelin that history is gonna repeat it self

I think this is going to be a repeat of the 1990 shock the nation tour... only with a sweeter ending possibly.... If we make it to the CFP this year the rest of the country needs to be afraid... VERY afraid......

Very possible. Who is left on your schedule that is a world beater?

We aren't there yet. All winnable games but lots of young guys and not alot of depth. We are going to lose a few games this year that we should win. Games that I don't like are Cal because of the 9:30 kick off and Kstate because its Kstate. OSU, OU, Baylor, Tech, TCU are all teams with the talent to beat us outright. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost 3-4 of those games.

We play a lot of good teams, aggy dishonesty notwithstanding.
After seeing OU are you saying they are good? TCU who could barely hang with South Dakota st? Again, tell me the teams that have the athletes you have besides OU?? Iowa St, Kansas, West Virginia, Iowa St, and Tech should be automatic. OU should be a good game. Baylor, TCU, and OSU don't have the athletes you do and only coaching loses those games but I'll give you any given day they can beat you.

All 4 of OU, OSU, TCU and Baylor can beat us. And you. They all have excellent teams. You're not honest or objective. You're trying to say they stink because of game 1.

We are not out of the woods nor do we know what we "fully" have yet by any stretch of the imagination. I agree speedstrength.
We beat a heckuva good football team on opening night. Any win over a blueblood is a great win. But now that the euphoria is starting to wear off, let's all take a rational look at where we need to grow and improve. I believe we have the TALENT to continue improving. I believe that we finally have an OC that can help get us to the next level. I believe we better get our defensive line and dbs spitting nails and pissing napalm ASA mother fvcking P. I believe our special teams needs some Beemer ball videos showed to them.

Shore up these areas and we've got a damn good chance of being a much, much better football team.

Look at it like this, we were the only unranked team to beat a true blueblood this weekend. Michigan, OSU, Bama, Nebraska- all these blue bloods won. OU, ND, USC- these blue bloods lost. OU to a ranked team. USC to a ranked team. ND, lost to us.

Let's address our weaknesses and celebrate our strengths and focused on getting better (Vance Bedford, I'm looking at you).

All I know is that with a couple of kids 3 months removed from the senior prom at qb and center, with an entirely new coaching staff on offense, we dropped 50 points and over 500 yards on a good defense.

It's frightening to think what this offense is going to look like when we get to the season finale on 11/25 against TCU.

Texas will lose 3-4 games because of the secondary. They are disorganized and undisciplined.

A 9-4 season would be alright with me...11 wins next year.
There's a LOT to learn from in this game: penalties, bad snaps, gaps in the D, blown coverages, and a failure to force turnovers. A lot of dropped passes. Texas was very fortunate that DeShon Elliott wasn't penalized for that high, shoulder/helmet-to-helmet hit.

This team's going to grow, though, and individuals are going to go places. As in, the NFL.

Any "fan" who made life difficult for T. Swoopes ought to be feeling ashamed, even without this performance. What a great young man.

I WANT to drink the kool-aid...especially since I'm taking my 17 yr old boy to his first Longhorn game in two weeks at Cal. Dear God let them beat down the hippies that day. That said, I'm not willing to call for Bedford's scalp quite yet. Do we need to improve on defense? Hell yes...but to my mind, those special teams mistakes were just inexcusable and the defense stepped up when it really got down to stink on stink...

And they could all beat you... ou/tcu and baylor probably more than 95% of the time regardless of what field they play you on. Kick rocks. Go celebrate your win on an aggy board instead of trying to downplay Texas.. this is getting weak and annoying

No world beaters on our schedule. The only world beater I can think of is Alabama, to be honest. So there are about 110 schools without a world beater on their schedule. If OU beats tOSU then I'd say they're still quite good (and that maybe Houston is damn good too). We'll see.

Meanwhile, your schedule just got a bit easier: LSU, Tenn, Miss State, Arkansas, SC all either looked bad against weak opponents or lost. And Auburn and Ole Miss lost to what may be a good teams. Your schedule has 1 world beater and 11 other whatever teams.

Have to agree, OU does not look good. Texas will be favored in the RRR in my opinion.

You are a GREAT Texas fan Flour.....but.....Texas winning that season was no fluke. Texas was preseason top 10 that year I am pretty sure. The 1990 "shock the nation" team is more like it.

Defense will get better as the season goes on. UTEP will hopefully help with some confidence and maturing on that side of the ball. And I'm not sure why the word "Fluke" was used for our NC year. We destroyed EVERYONE with the exception of Ohio State.

Look...I am the Kool aide master blender...but we need to tap the brakes a bit, We certainly ARE better than most thought coming in this year, but that inexperience will probably bite us in the ass at some point this year. When Haynes went out we were a mess in the secondary and that led to 21 unanswered points. We didnt "let up" we were continually out of position.

I will need to see another game or 2 before I fully trust that Shane is as damned calm and poised as he looks like he might be.I start tearing up just thinking about when we fully unleash the "hounds" and have Foreman,Burt,Johnson and Duverney on the "fly" all at once....then screw em up with Oliver and Bluett...but...we have to get that hugely talented secondary figured out first. I would have NEVER thought that was the unit of most concern.

We might, just might do really, really well this year, but it is not just yet our time.

He was probably referring to the Kansas game and the way it ended.

It's too early to tell.

This Longhorn team needs to fix its mistakes, and play (and be coached) at a consistently high level. How will they play on the road or if DKR goes quiet?

It's the only time in college football history that two teams started the year ranked #1 and #2 and stayed there every week.

Well, we didn't repeat the following yr and we haven't won anything but a bowl since then so whats not to be a fluke? We haven't gone undefeated since then, our FB team and FB program fell apart, I would say it was a fluke that we had a guy named VY and he could do what he did, once in a lifetime thing..

Not very many teams repeat with the exception of Alabama and remember we lost VY to the NFL draft. I think if he stays we repeat and let's not act like we went straight into the toilet. If I remember correctly Colt took us to another NC we just lost. FLUKE is pretty harsh in my opinion.

Not trying to be harsh, well we got lucky that VY was at Texas and he did the job, and Colt couldn't finish and we lost, so I guess it was a its a wonder then that he got hurt, and then the team started downward to the bottom, VY's team had all the pieces clicking as did Colt, but, when Colt went down, it unraveled against Bama and started downward, so since it happened like it did and hasn't repeated , then it musta been something in that area or luck or the moons aligned just right, I quote you saying except Bama, well, then why can't we do the same? If Bama is the only one doing it then for us to do it would be strange don't ya think or a wonder or a fluke?
