Some coaching rumors after talking to a couple people this afternoon.

As has been reported, everyone I've talked to expects Houston DC Todd Orlando to join Tom Herman's staff at Texas. This one seems like a no-brainer.

Craig Naivar's name has been talked about as a guy who would probably join the Texas staff at some point, but there's been talk that Naivar wanted to wait to see how the Houston coaching situation worked out before finalizing a decision. With Major Applewhite being named the Houston coach, one person I spoke with this morning wondered if Applewhite might try to keep Naivar by naming him d-coordinator. Could still happen I guess, but one person I spoke with a little bit ago still expects Naivar to be part of the Texas staff. Naivar and Herman are very close, Naivar is from Taylor and I think he may even have some family connections to UT. Doesn't sound like anything is finalized, but the person I spoke with is expecting Naivar to be in Austin.

Drew Mehringer (Rutgers OC) has been discussed for a position on the UT staff. One person I spoke with today said he'd heard over the past couple weeks if Applewhite balked, Merhringer would be the guy at OC. However, the person I just spoke with thinks he may be brought over as a positional coach with some title. Makes sense, because Mehringer and Herman have worked together at a few different stops in the past (Rice, Iowa State, Ohio State, Houston).

An Ohio State source had the following to say about current OSU offensive coordinators Ed Warinner and Tim Beck ...

"Warinner wants to be a head coach, he's in the WKU mix. Beck would make some sense. Been recruiting Texas for years."

Where would that leave the OC spot? "You need to look at Ohio State. Maybe someone who wants to get away from Urban."

No real confirmation on anything I guess, just passing along some educated guesses from a couple people I talked to today.
