When we first heard about Jerrod Heard's shoulder injury, I checked with a source I trust to get a quick update. I was told very early on that the estimate was that Heard would be out of action 1 or 2 weeks.

With Matthew Merrick out for spring due to fractures in his back, this same person told me it's "just Shane and Ty."

Where does that leave Kai Locksley? You all can read between the lines, but everything I've heard going back to last fall was that Locksley likely wasn't going to be a factor and the person I communicated with this week didn't seem to think things would change much, even with the absence of Heard and Merrick.

In the last week or so, following spring break, I had been hearing more behind-the-scenes buzz about Buchele. Nothing too concrete, just that he continues to play pretty well and is impressing his teammates. With Heard out for what will probably be a couple weeks, you have to wonder if this could be the beginning of a big shift in the QB depth chart. If Buechele plays well while Heard is out, and I expect he will, he could very well take over that No. 2 spot and never look back. Also, if he plays well, it won't shock me at all to see the coaches go ahead and shut down Heard for the spring so they can get as thorough a look at Buechele as possible. We'll see.

Bottom line though ... it's Swoopes/Buechele at the QB position for the foreseeable future. Those two and only those two. And the next couple weeks could really be big for how the QB rotation sets up heading into the off-season.
