So will try to not make this too political as this seemed like a huge failure during Trump and continues today. The failure (and I am certainly not the first to point it out) is that the administration and top health officials never seem to focus on treatment if you get covid.
The focus always seems to be on vaccines, masks and overloaded ICUs. Go get your shot, wear your mask, go get your booster, no ICU beds, special rules for vaxxed/unvaxxed...
People can argue about it but the evidence is very clear that vaccines do reduce severity and probably reduce spread. So yes, the best first line of defense is the vaccine but you can still get it if you have the vaccine and 30% of people just aren't going to get the shot.
So why doesn't the gov say - please get the vaccine but vaxxed or not if you get covid here is the current recommended protocol.... If the goal is to not overwhelm hospitals wouldn't it be good to treat those that have the virus before they need to go to the hospital?? And I know there are arguments about the best treatment but there are several things that most all seem to agree on and it is defintely proven that early treatment is a key.
Have a friend that is vaxxed/boosted and tested positive yesterday. The instructions on the test results recommended he stay home, drink fluids and take fever reducers as necessary...
Rant over, on this note here is an article from the other day about treatments - https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/22841852/covid-drugs-antibodies-fluvoxamine-molnupiravir-paxlovid
And an article from Pierre Kory - https://thefederalist.com/2021/12/1...c-drugs-can-fight-covid-are-being-suppressed/
