I doubted this team & staff tonight. I was wrong & I deserve a large serving of crow.

I learned that this team & staff are more than capable of winning games when players are out & chips are down. Therefore, I believe Texas can win 8 next year. That’s the cellar for next year’s team - 8 victories.

I did as well. Glad they won. They took advantage of mistakes Mizzou made and didn’t make that back breaking mistake they have in other games. Texas has a chance to win 8 games.... they HAVE to score more than 20 points a game on offense though. Gotta figure that out. I know some beleive I hate Herman nothing I ever say will change that, but I can tell you this I’ll be the first one to congratulate him if he does.

Word. No worries though Texas was a large underdog with their four best players out on draft watch or suspension plus 6 more starters out.

This was a sign of next years defense not being too much of a drop off.....Malik out. Elliot out. Hill out. Nelson out. Every guy that started on D tonight comes back except for Poona and Antwan Davis, plus you get Chris Nelson back.

Based off your 8 win prediction, which teams do you predict wins over to get us to 8 wins?

And you'll be Negative Nelly the whole way and can't wait to say, "I told you so", if/when they don't win 8 games.

You could get there if you squint a little
Maryland
Tulsa
Kansas
Baylor

Should all be wins in that scernio.

So 4 more out of USC, OU, Ok State, Kstate, TCU, WVA, Tech, Iowa State.
It’s not impossible to see...

I think next season goes one of two ways

A. We win 8-9 games Herman reels in another top 5 class and the program feels like it’s rollimg.

B. The offense struggles continue the defense is slightly worse and 5-6 wins is a struggle

I’ve never felt that way about a season, but I could really see 2018 going really well or very poorly. It’s a complete tossup imo. We will know fairly early though. Schedule is pretty front loaded next year.

I'm here to eat crow. Didn't think they could pull out of the tailspin of the tech game especially missing starters, but they did. That team last night wasn't great but they would have beat tech. Not ready to predict 9 wins next year though. Teams may be losing their starters but they have been allowed to recruit other QBs as well. We've been harking on OU losing their QB forever, but the next guy always steps up.

I'll eat mine too with an extra serving. I thought there was no way our D would be as good as it was without our starters. I was suspect of our O of course and they still didn't play good but just good enough (no turnovers). Hopefully with our 2018 recruits and the players that have been in the system for a season now we'll be better next season. I'm looking forward to seeing what Herman can do with year 2.

Last night was Herman's best game at Texas. I have thought he tried to outsmart people all year and tried to be cute.
His willingness to not go for it on 4th down and punt was big. He took advantage of the scoop and score and the fumble on the next drive.
Everyone wanted to see creativity out of the offense last night, but it wasn't called for.
He saw the left side of his OL, which was beyond terrible. Rodriguez couldn't block me, and I have know idea how Vahe has regressed so much.
My only issue with his plan yesterday was Kyle Porter. The announcers thought he ran so hard, so maybe I missed something.
Ford, Roach, Hager and Johnson looked really good up front. Johnson looks better than Jefferson to me.

As a non-football expert, it appears he goes harder than Jefferson and that has been a knock on Jefferson all along. When he goes hard he is as good as anyone in CFB, but he appears to take plays off. Johnson went hard all night last night, and was playing like his hair was on fire. I like what I saw from him. Also liked what I saw from Kris Boyd, that kid has no back down in him. He has the swagger and the tools to be a complete lockdown corner. And he loves to hit!

Jefferson is good but his high school accolades are adding to his aura. He's an NFL talent with his physical metrics but his production certainly isn't irreplaceable.

Boyd did look good. He has all the physical tools, only question with him is emotional/mental. If he has grown up, he'll be good to go.
I know Jefferson is super fast, but Johnson plays faster to me. Seems to have more dog in him, if not as talented as Jefferson. Like Johnson much more than Wheeler as well. And Wheeler is decent. Wheeler might have been better served playing in a league with less spread based teams. Would like to see him against a team with a traditional TE and maybe even a fullback.

Johnson is faster than Malik. Maybe not straight line in underwear, but put pads on and make them move laterally and Johnson is getting there quicker.

This is not an 8 win team as currently constructed. D should be pretty good but we are thin at DT and DB. If we can stay healthy we should be as good as the D that played this year. The offense is a hot mess. Unless there is a massive improvement in the play of the Oline this offense isn't going to do much of anything. We also need some TE/HB that can block and threaten the middle of the field. Would also be nice to have a RB that could take it to the house. Maybe try to move Durveny back there in the spring. He is built like Jamall Charles. Maybe he could produce similar results.

He is built like Jamall Charles.

JC is shifty AF! Built like him has nothing to do with it but I do agree we need a home run hitter or one that can pick up 5 yards a pop. I was assuming Toneil Carter was that guy but apparently he can't follow simple team rules.

Charles got a ton of yards as a 1 cut speed back. What made him one of the best backs in the NFL was his ability to make people miss in the second level. I don't think Duverney has that ability but I think he could be a very good 1 cut speed back with the ability to break some long runs.

Maybe I dreamed this, but I thought I read somewhere that Johnson was the second fastest guy on the team. It sure doesnt sound right when we had Duvernay, Burt and Armanti.

At any rate I expected him to be faster than Malik

I still say the Texas punter was mvp for the entire season. Mizzouri had 110 more yards of offense. Look at the field position the entire game. He is impressive and deserved the Ray Guy award. I missed Herman’s dance darn it.

The thing going in their favor next year is the “big teams” we play next year alll lose their QBs(assuming Darnold comes out). So that certainly makes the games more unpredictable goimg in to next year.

Herman and Strong both have talked about getting over the hump and getting a signature win. It’s been close for both, but hasn’t really materialized in the last 4 years. It’s gonna be a topic again next year, and will likely determine if we win 8-9 games or 5 games. No time to ease in to the season either. We’re gonna know pretty early whst kind of season 2018 will be. Maryland, Tulsa, USC, TCU, @K state, OU

That’s are first 6 weeks...so we’re gonna know pretty early whst kind of season to expect.

This is pretty cool

It would probably take a lot of luck for the 2018team to win the big 12, but cool none the less.

Kids will like that. Old rich white guys paying the bills might not. Can not imagine Saban or Urban doing that. Whatever.

You're probably right but neither would DKR or Mack. Something new and it will piss off some fans and some not so much.

That's a huge mental leap that we need to avoid right now.

This is what I'm talking about---- we go from beating a bottom third SEC team to next year already talking about winning the big 12. Let's be a little more measured in our expectations.

I agree. I know Herman promised the seniors big 12 title rings if the team won the title next year. That’s great I’m sure the players love it, and all that, but it would take a minor miracle for the 2018 team to win the conference. Let’s focus on winning 8-9 games and doing more than just playing well against good teams first. If we can do that then maybe the 2019 team can win the conference. If Herman wants to by every alumni a championship ring then I’m good with that. He can use that hearty raise he would receive under those circumstances.

LOL someone is already talking about winning the B12?

Hopefully it's Tom Herman. When you look at this past season game by game it's not a "minor miracle" to think the Horns could contend for the Big 12 championship next year. There was not a single game this year that Texas didn't play straight up and could of won. The previous three years were different. In several of the of the losses they were ran off the field. I think the stat was 11 of the 21 losses in the Charlie Strong era were by 18 points or more.

Just marginal improvement would go a long way in the W/L column next year.
