Cruz is obviously a very smart guy and has his reasons. But this makes him seem like just another politician who takes positions based on convenience of the moment and political expediency.
His calculation must be that Trump has a decent chance of winning and he doesn't want to be completely exiled from the Republican power structure. But I suspect this endorsement won't be of much help if Trump does win. The Donald and his close circle aren't likely to forgive and forget what happened in Cleveland.
