Heaven knows Jeff Dillard could cook. My favorite thing about 2017 so far (aside from learning I have a new son on the way) is the Orangebloods Jeff Dillard Memorial Tailgate.

On that note ... I don't want to spill the beans about what will happen with the dedication of the tailgate this morning, but it will be a nice ceremony for Jeff's family members and our OB members who miss our man.

Obviously, tailgates need food. This week, there will be some brisket provided. Here's the deal for now, though - no open flames are allowed at the tailgate site, so much of the fare will have to be prepared elsewhere and transported for the 2017 season. This is something that organizers should continue to look into, because, in my opinion, it's not a Jeff Dillard tailgate without some dude sweating like a stuck pig and tending a hot fire while welcoming guests.

Knowing the OB community, I can imagine their first thought: "Can I bring anything?" - Yes. You can bring anything you want. As of now, there is no alcohol provided by the tailgate. If you want to drink, bring alcohol for yourself and even a new friend. There will be plenty of space to store beverages. Another helpful thing to bring would be some bottled waters to toss in there. From what I can understand, OB is speaking with possible suppliers/sponsors for beer at the tailgate at some point in the future, but nothing will be in place for this first early morning affair vs. Maryland. As mentioned, brisket is being cooked overnight. There will be food at the event, but -- as always -- food donations and folks bringing their own contributions to the tailgate are welcome. Think of it like Thanksgiving with OB zoo animals instead of your family.

Everyone is encouraged to pitch in if they can. These tailgates won't fund themselves (for now) and the OB community came through in a big way with getting this thing started. In speaking with TemPimp, it's clear to see that out-of-pocket expenses come for a lot of people attached to this deal. For example, the wristbands OB members will receive to enter the tailgate and the nametags you'll receive to display your screen name were a $100 expense on their own. If you come to the tailgate -- and especially if you eat, etc. -- please make plans to donate at least something to the collection jar. It goes not only to operating expenses, but also to security in the future of the tailgate and contributions to charities that Jeff would have rallied for.

Most of all, this is a family-friendly deal. Bring your kids, bring your significant others. There will be games like washers and a few TVs (one thanks to Harlan at ABTV here in Austin).

You've already heard all of my football thoughts over the last six months -- now it's time to see what the hell is going to happen.

This is the ushering in of a new chapter in Texas football.

This is the start of the Tom Herman era in Longhorns history.

This is a time to wipe clean the sludge spewed on a sterling program due to the ineptitude of an ousted cast of characters.

THIS. IS. GAME. DAY.
