I'll be hanging around a laptop in my kitchen and cooking food on the grill. Hit me with any questions you've got for the next hour or two. I'll post both the question and the answer here in the OP so it will be an easier-to-read feature for in the morning. Ask me anything - practice, food, spirits, football, draft, fantasy, gambling, poker, music, gardening, etc.
No way I'm putting my prediction out there just yet, but it's impossible for me to give a one that is anything more than just conjecture at this time, anyway. I think that Herman needs to improve on 2017 to avoid at least the hint of a hot seat -- and I think he will avoid that, so I can venture to guess that much.
No I don't watch UFC unless I'm at a party or a friend's house where they have ordered it. I enjoy it like crazy but I'm a casual fan at most. Think it's a great sport, etc. -- have heard buzz that this one is going to be a lights out card all the way from top to bottom.
At this time, your guess would be as good as mine. Jason is your guy for that stuff, I don't stock high school boys often tbh.
Since it's daddy cooking it's easy. Two filets on the grill (the cheat code IMO is to buy the prime ones at HEB which are only a dollar more/lb than the choice ones) and I'll also probably make sweet potatoes and a kale salad.
That is not a good day, it's the best day. I've been renting this year and it's my first time since 2008 without a tomato garden. Closed on a new home last week and will move in through May so I'll have a whole year to get the tomato beds ready to go for 2019.
I don't have a Top 5, I'll say Top 2 is Speith and Rory.
Marijuana, peyote and basically any naturally occurring psychedelic, prostitution between willing and consensual participants, sports gambling and all gambling in general.
Jason Suchomel: He keeps gettin' older but these high school prospects stay the same age.
I wouldn't ever subject myself to a mock draft site where it was just mock drafts of other people. I hated doing those myself when it was my job and now do only one a year for Huddle Report. That's an awesome site if you want to see everyone's final mocks, etc. If you mean like a mock draft simulator, I think the one on FanSpeak.com is the one a lot of people mess around with when simulating a mock for their favorite teams.
Quenton Nelson or Baker Mayfield.
I think that as long as Calvin Anderson stays healthy, and as long as he steps right in and is effective, then what that does is give the rest of the line immense versatility and talented, while admittedly somewhat unseasoned, depth. With a good OL coach, you can put those pieces together into something that can be described as respectable. So, at this time I'll say yes.
Can't see that unless two players get injured. Until we see differently we should assume that Herman, Drayton and Co. are committed to a committee.
You're basically asking if Keaontay Ingram can break ahead of the current 1a/1b duo that is Carter and Young who it would be a coin-flip in Vegas currently if wanting to bet who took the first carry versus OU. I think Ingram has a chance to be that guy and will always withhold judgement (sometimes to a fault, ask Ketch) until I can see them on the field live against other college players, but I'd guess Ingram comes in and immediately pushes. I think Carter has the juice to hold him off if gets his ball-control figured out but Ingram should come in and push. Put a gun to my head and I'll say Carter takes the first snap as starter in the Cotton Bowl.
Hit Big: Allen Robinson - welcome to Matt Nagy offense with a dirty college RPO quarterback
Bust: Jarvis Landry - he's dependent on volume to be a decent asset even in PPR and Duke Johnson will not only steal those low average depth of target throws, but Tyrod Taylor's biggest season with a WR was a 60 reception 2015(?) with Sammy Watkins. Let's not forget Corey Coleman, Njoke and Josh Gordon all vying for targets too. Jarvis may be a good real-life signing, but his fantasy production will take a huge hit.
All the time, I had to quit though because after the first time we got dropped, it was just too hard to depend on regular income as it had become my profession for the most part. I say I miss it all the time, but I kind of also really thank God all the time I'm not doing it any more. It's a weird life touring in a band; probably about like anything else, you look back and romantically remember the great times, but it's easy to forget all the junk that went into it.
5th round
Dallas has needs across the defense and will go with the guy highest on their board at any defensive position unless they have a WR like Calvin Ridley, Courtland Sutton or DJ Moore graded out too highly to pass up on.
Shawshank
Forrest Gump
Three Amigos
Big Lebowski
Rudy
It's a huge year for OU and OSU, we'll see what happens - but until proven otherwise, I think that we should consider those guys and Texas to be battling it out. Texas has been bad in recent years, but is trending in the right direction while those teams lose bona-fide studs. WVU always a consideration these days, too.
I don't like Josh Allen and maybe that's going to be an evaluation that comes back to bite me, because boy does he have tools. I just think that timing and poise and accuracy and touch all in one bag are hard to teach -- even by the best gurus. Josh Allen was awful in Senior Bowl practices and if you watch numerous college games versus regular competition was really awful as well at numerous times (5 picks in one game-stuff). My top 5 is not necessarily how I think they will go, but it is (much to chagrin of those reading I'm sure)
Baker Mayfield
Sam Darnold (might as well be a tie)
Josh Rosen
tie between Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
I just googled all three and Kate Upton has to be the chalk in the that group.
Grasshopper you need to learn the answer is both.
Can we still count Samuel Cosmi? That guy has all the looks of a player set to break out at some point. Has a lot of Connor Williams to him, but the feet aren't quite as smooth at this point.
Yo brother - I'm not growing a thing right now but will be in a new house soon and will be getting beds established. As for reading, I have read/listened to three books recently that I'll do reviews for in the column on a slow day soon - let me say this: I saw someone on this board recommend "I Am Pilgrim" as a read and holy shit what a book. I just finished it tonight and it's one of those where I am legit pissed it's over. Just an amazing thriller. Don't start reading it if you have stuff to do.
Hue Jackson being retained as HC while Sashi Brown was fired as GM of the Browns.
I think that with that one alt coin that you will make your money back but it's a long hodl. Overall, I am bearish on the alt coin market, though.
The poster boys for that sort of evaluation are Brennan Eagles and BJ Foster.
It's reasonable to think he'd be a starter as in a primary sub-package guy, but don't see him coming on as an outright starter in base before then. That could change, of course. He's looked good.
I'm just going to take a wild-hair shot on Anwar and hope it works out.
Lifetime supply of Franklin BBQ that I'll enjoy with my dream girl -- who happens to be my wife -- who happens to be a very interested OB lurker.
"My best friend's best friend is me!"
Hand is more of a Wickline and a Searles than the other two for sure -- which is a good thing.
Love my job, I'm a lucky dude.
I'm not as hyped as everyone else - not too big a target share Sammy Watkins left behind and Robert Woods + Cooper Kupp have great relationships with Goff. I think it hurts those two more than makes Cooks uber-fantasy viable. I view the move as a slight downgrade from NE.
The short is answer is:
of course.
Easily the wide receivers. A group of beastly players and sick athletes who can win in the Big 12.
Oh Good Lord is Luke Joeckel and how could it be anyone else? I'm still not convinced he's a bust but, man, what happened?
When I get asked to write about what is disappointing, I know it's probably a good stopping point so I'll bow out here. I think maybe if I had to say something I'd say it's the running backs and ball security. I think Herman has the same concerns.
Thanks to all for participating in the chat, and it will be left up in the form of a column. I'll hop back in tomorrow and answer more questions in the thread.

First.
How many games does Texas win in 2018?
No way I'm putting my prediction out there just yet, but it's impossible for me to give a one that is anything more than just conjecture at this time, anyway. I think that Herman needs to improve on 2017 to avoid at least the hint of a hot seat -- and I think he will avoid that, so I can venture to guess that much.
Are you watching the fights on Saturday night? UFC223
No I don't watch UFC unless I'm at a party or a friend's house where they have ordered it. I enjoy it like crazy but I'm a casual fan at most. Think it's a great sport, etc. -- have heard buzz that this one is going to be a lights out card all the way from top to bottom.
Who is the next commit?
At this time, your guess would be as good as mine. Jason is your guy for that stuff, I don't stock high school boys often tbh.
What’s for dinner?
Since it's daddy cooking it's easy. Two filets on the grill (the cheat code IMO is to buy the prime ones at HEB which are only a dollar more/lb than the choice ones) and I'll also probably make sweet potatoes and a kale salad.
Hey Alex, my Tasteful Garden tomatoes arrived in the mail today. Good day.
That is not a good day, it's the best day. I've been renting this year and it's my first time since 2008 without a tomato garden. Closed on a new home last week and will move in through May so I'll have a whole year to get the tomato beds ready to go for 2019.
Masters who you got? Top 5 picks
I don't have a Top 5, I'll say Top 2 is Speith and Rory.
What illegal vices do you think should be legal?
Marijuana, peyote and basically any naturally occurring psychedelic, prostitution between willing and consensual participants, sports gambling and all gambling in general.
Let's say Dazed and Confused were to be remade; cast the OB mods in the movie.
Jason Suchomel: He keeps gettin' older but these high school prospects stay the same age.
Best mock draft site?
What is your Predicted 2018 Texas record?
I wouldn't ever subject myself to a mock draft site where it was just mock drafts of other people. I hated doing those myself when it was my job and now do only one a year for Huddle Report. That's an awesome site if you want to see everyone's final mocks, etc. If you mean like a mock draft simulator, I think the one on FanSpeak.com is the one a lot of people mess around with when simulating a mock for their favorite teams.
Who's Denver picking, as of today?
Quenton Nelson or Baker Mayfield.
Does O line improve enough to support a respectable run game?
I think that as long as Calvin Anderson stays healthy, and as long as he steps right in and is effective, then what that does is give the rest of the line immense versatility and talented, while admittedly somewhat unseasoned, depth. With a good OL coach, you can put those pieces together into something that can be described as respectable. So, at this time I'll say yes.
Is the next 1000 yard rusher on the roster?
Can't see that unless two players get injured. Until we see differently we should assume that Herman, Drayton and Co. are committed to a committee.
Who is the starting running back for the OU game?
Pick one NFL trade or free agent move that you think will hit big in fantasy next year, and one that will bust.
When will Poona get drafted?
Who does Dallas draft 1st round
5th round
Dallas has needs across the defense and will go with the guy highest on their board at any defensive position unless they have a WR like Calvin Ridley, Courtland Sutton or DJ Moore graded out too highly to pass up on.
should utwiz be reinstated?
Alex, what are your top 5 favorite movies?
Shawshank
Forrest Gump
Three Amigos
Big Lebowski
Rudy
Who do you think contends for B12 champ in fb this year?
It's a huge year for OU and OSU, we'll see what happens - but until proven otherwise, I think that we should consider those guys and Texas to be battling it out. Texas has been bad in recent years, but is trending in the right direction while those teams lose bona-fide studs. WVU always a consideration these days, too.
Rank your top 5 QB prospects. And do you believe the rumors the Browns have settled on Josh Fields as their guy? That would almost assuredly mean the Giants would take Sam Darnold, right?
I don't like Josh Allen and maybe that's going to be an evaluation that comes back to bite me, because boy does he have tools. I just think that timing and poise and accuracy and touch all in one bag are hard to teach -- even by the best gurus. Josh Rosen
tie between Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
Kate Upton, Candice Swanepoel or Kate Beckinsale?
I just googled all three and Kate Upton has to be the chalk in the that group.
Large and jiggly or small and firm?
Grasshopper you need to learn the answer is both.
Who is ur darkhourse OL for the 2018 season? (Under the radar type guy)
Can we still count Samuel Cosmi? That guy has all the looks of a player set to break out at some point. Has a lot of Connor Williams to him, but the feet aren't quite as smooth at this point.
Sup Alex.
What are you reading and growing these days man?
Yo brother - I'm not growing a thing right now but will be in a new house soon and will be getting beds established. What is the most cockamamie thing you've seen/heard about over the past year?
Hue Jackson being retained as HC while Sashi Brown was fired as GM of the Browns.
Will I ever make my money back that I invested in dragonchain at the beginning of the year?
I think that with that one alt coin that you will make your money back but it's a long hodl. Overall, I am bearish on the alt coin market, though.
From just physical measureables standpoint,. height, weight, 40 yd, etc which players from the recent recruiting class could project to being drafted in the nfl..
Hypothetically of course..
The poster boys for that sort of evaluation are Brennan Eagles and BJ Foster.
Is Caden Sterns a starter by game 3? How is BJ Foster coming along?
It's reasonable to think he'd be a starter as in a primary sub-package guy, but don't see him coming on as an outright starter in base before then. That could change, of course. He's looked good.
Pickup basketball. Which OB staff member are you taking first pick?
I'm just going to take a wild-hair shot on Anwar and hope it works out.
Lifetime supply of your favorite food/restaurant or a one night stand with your dream girl?
Lifetime supply of Franklin BBQ that I'll enjoy with my dream girl -- who happens to be my wife -- who happens to be a very interested OB lurker.
Jake was dying. His wife sat at the bedside.
He looked up and said weakly:
'I have something I must confess.'
'There's no need to, 'his wife replied...
'No,' he insisted,
'I want to die in peace.
I slept with your sister, your best friend,
her best friend, and your mother!'
And the wife said______________________________.
"My best friend's best friend is me!"
Do you see any big differences in how Hand is coaching vs Warehime, vs Mattox? I don't mean in terms of player relations but in drills, emphasis on instruction etc? How much hope in improvement does it give you?
Hand is more of a Wickline and a Searles than the other two for sure -- which is a good thing.
Do you like this gig? No, I mean, do you like your job. Don’t answer that!! Do you like being Alex from Orangebloods? Answer the question !!!!!
Love my job, I'm a lucky dude.
Brandin Cook...how many yards/td's does he go for next year in the McVay offense?
I'm not as hyped as everyone else - not too big a target share Sammy Watkins left behind and Robert Woods + Cooper Kupp have great relationships with Goff. I think it hurts those two more than makes Cooks uber-fantasy viable. I view the move as a slight downgrade from NE.
If someone created a test where you could determine the winners of every horse race on the day of the Kentucky Derby but to do so, you’d have to drink every horses semen, would you do it?
The short is answer is:
of course.
Alex, what's your favorite position group on this team?
Easily the wide receivers. A group of beastly players and sick athletes who can win in the Big 12.
Who was the best lineman you ever saw who blew your mind because he was an NFL bust?
Oh Good Lord is Luke Joeckel and how could it be anyone else? I'm still not convinced he's a bust but, man, what happened?
Any disappointing developments so far in spring practices? Who should be turning corner that isn’t or who are we depending on that is underperforming?
When I get asked to write about what is disappointing, I know it's probably a good stopping point so I'll bow out here. I think maybe if I had to say something I'd say it's the running backs and ball security. I think Herman has the same concerns.
