I just needed a place to vent about some of the things I see posted on aggy message boards. It is self inflicted sure, but I do follow Longhorn Frenzy on twitter and he posts screenshots of some of the craziest stuff that pops up across aggy message boards. I'm sure you could do the same with some Texas message boards.
Before I start:
- I am not really interested in arguing with an aggies about these things. That's why I would never respond to their threads or tweets. If they end up here, fine, but I don't see a lot of benefit in that
- That said, I have a hard time not chiming in and refuting some of the stuff they post. It is often factually inaccurate, or opinions/rumors that they start using as facts.
- I just needed to get some of this out and maybe get some rational feedback
There have been a ton of things recently that could be discussed but if you don't follow any aggy message boards (or Longhorn Frenzy) here are a few recent examples:
1. Aggies believe that the Texas staff asked Vernon Broughton to postpone his commitment until after Haynes King (a top QB recruit) committed to aggy. That way, Vernon could announce his commitment to combat the aggy recruiting momentum. It's crazy to even have this thought, as if Texas is constantly plotting to combat aggy recruiting. Sure, we keep tabs on our main recruiting rivals but to think that we had a top recruit in Broughton, that we weren't even sure of, hold off on a commitment so that he could drop it after a Aggy QB recruit with an uncertain timeline and unclear school of choice makes no sense. And yet, once this idea is floated around the boards, others start referring to it as a certainty and start discussing how pathetic Herman is for using such a tactic. There was no tactic here!
2. Aggies are convinced about an overarching BOMC (burnt orange media conspiracy). ESPN is of course in on this as are the recruiting sites (I think they are most suspicious of 24/7). Their biggest thing these days are to freak out anytime the recruiting sites bump up Texas commits in the rankings. Remember freak athlete and 2019 commit Tyler Owens who popped up late on the scene last year. Yeah, aggy was convinced his ratings bump was all contrived. They now obsess over this and were already complaining about the increases our most recent commit, Van Fillinger has had. Mind you, no one knew Van was coming to Texas until today and his ranking hasn't increased since June. Oh, and he is one of our lowest ranked recruits who is currently having little impact on our overall recruiting ranking.
Just a few things that have bothered me recently. Has anyone else noticed this?
