My daughter is obsessed with robots right now. Mostly because she is 4, and she is concerned that the roomba is going to “get her”. But it made me think of the home robot craze, which lasted about a month, in the 1980s.

I remember they ranged in size and complexity, from the little ones that would roll around and bump into shit, and then change direction, much like today’s roomba, to man-sized ones that supposedly performed other functions. What they did, I have no idea, but some of these more advanced ones had a place for a cassette tape or a floppy disk.

I was a little kid, and my parents got me one of the small ones that didn’t do shit. But it scratched my robot itch, which I assume was from things like The Terminator, and all the pop culture craze of bionic this and cyborg that.

So my questions are as follows:

1. Did you have one in your house?
2. What kind was it (I’ll settle for big vs. small)
3. Did you ever attempt to have sex with it? If you don’t answer, I will assume the answer is yes.
