Not sure how "original" this is as a subject, but I haven't seen it discussed on this board in awhile and started thinking about it as I was posting a response in another thread. Whereas we were a Confederate state and clearly align more to Southern culture and religious conviction, our large cities make us far more diverse and cosmopolitan than any other place in the "South", and the associated growth aligns us much more with the idea of Western expansion.
