On the way back from Colorado. A few thoughts:
- They’ve done lot of work on their campus since I last saw it in 2002 or 2003.
- They have a plaza outside the football stadium with statues of their Heisman winners that is well done. I hope we come up with a great way to display the statues of Rickie and Earl, possibly on the field that bears their name or on the new viewing platforms that overlook the field.
- The town still doesn’t offer much, but I did notice that they’ve re-done the overpasses over I-35 at the campus exits, which probably helps a lot with game day up there. I hope the work we’re doing in Austin at Red River and, later, with I-35, is done well too to better allow for traffic and pedestrians on a crowded game day.
- The area in general was quiet as hell, as you’d expect with Covid etc.

Other road trip thoughts:
- Stayed at a Hampton Inn south of Wichita, KS last night and it was attached to the Kansas Star Casino, which I had to venture into to get food. If there’s an outbreak of Covid from that joint it wouldn’t surprise me, based on the crowded tables, lax mask use, and general lack of hygiene.
- Saw a few guys who I think were on the Wichita State basketball team hanging out in the casino.
- The northern parts of Oklahoma City, east of their capitol, are rough as hell.
- Ardmore, OK doesn’t appear to be much of a town.
- Oklahoma as a state is basically Indiana and there is no reason they should have a tradition of football dominance except for their proximity to Texas.
- I’m back home in Texas and have showered off the filth of Oklahoma.
