Durant to Warriors

I wish he had come to SA to. I will still root for KD though. He seems like a good guy. I thought he would be more a competitor than he is though. Never thought he would go to the Warriors. I hate the warriors.
I'm with you about rooting for him. I root for all Longhorns to do well even if he's on a terrible team or rival team. You would get the same reaction from folks if he had chosen SA.

Kevin Durant To Warriors Should Help The University Of Texas' Nike Deal

Kevin Durant has decided to sign with the Golden State Warriors for $54 million over two years.

That’s good news for Warriors fans, who enjoyed an NBA title in 2014-15, but lost in the finals this past season to the Cleveland Cavaliers. But another winner may be the University of Texas.

Last year the Longhorns and Nike inked a $250 million apparel deal that included Durant. Here is the link to the term sheet.

As SB Nation reported after the deal was announced: “The negotiations between Texas and Nike this year and Durant and Nike last year played out in similar fashion. Under Armour offered Durant a 10-year, $250 million contract during the summer of 2014, but he ultimately stuck with Nike to ink a package that could reportedly total $300 million, just like the Horns stuck wtih Nike despite reports that Under Armour was willing to offer a monster compensation package. Now Durant and Texas will benefit from the university’s new deal with the apparel giant and industry leader, as Nike will produce a co-branded signature line of apparel from which the Horns will receive royalties. The deal was possible in large part because Durant’s Nike line “has reached record levels in recent years compared to other pro athletes in Nike’s portfolio,” according to a term sheet released by the school.”

Obviously, Silicon Valley is a much bigger market than Oklahoma City. This past season Durant was fifth in the league in jersey sales (Stephen Curry was first) while Oklahoma was seventh as a team in the NBA compared to the Warriors first place slot.

Given the co-branding deal with Durant, Texas should profit from his move to the Golden State too.

Good for KD! I could careless where he goes this is professional basketball it's all about money and rings. Loyalty is him giving back to his school and who's been with him through thick and thin. I'm a fan of KD because he's a Longhorn not because of what pro team he was drafted by and where he decides to TRY and win a ring. The man seems to be humble and giving, so cut the guy a break at least he's not Manzieling it and representing UT in a truly bad way.

If my choice was between GS and SA . . . I would've chosen GS too. SA is getting a little long in the tooth.
Agreed that GS is set up for more long term success based on what the rosters look like TODAY. Not to say that SA won't retool the roster to continue to compete for championships, but GS roster looks better today.

LaMarcus? Leonard? Greene? Mills?

Add KD and you've got 5-7 years of title runs.

It turns out KD will ink a 2yr deal with a players option on the 2nd. Manu is back for another year, Tim is leaning towards retirement, & they signed Gasol for 2 with an option. I'm thinking if KD gets a ring in yr 1 he'll stay to defend but if they come up short, Pop will be welcoming him with max salary space.
