Early 2022 Big12 FB prediction

I just don't see Baylor repeating this year. They lost a lot of production on the offensive side of the ball. This is going to be a fun year though because there isn't just once clear cut favorite to win the conference. I think Kansas State is a sleeper team to watch.

Thing that surprises me on the UT writeup was that there was no mention of Patterson. Maybe I am wrong, but I believe that regardless of his title, he will have a huge impact on the defense, With his track record of taking midling recruits and fielding sporty defenses at purple baylor, I expect a vast improvement on the Texas defense.

The main thing is we have to learn to close games. We lost 4 games by 6 points or less last year and had the lead in the second half of all 4 of those games. If our defense shows any kind of improvement there's no reason we shouldn't win 8 or 9 games.

In my opinion if Texas was wanting to mold themselves after the good TCU defenses they should have hired Dick Bumpas, he was the brains behind that defense and you could tell after he retired TCU became just a run of the mill team for the most part. Personally I think they underachieved in the Big 12. Gary Patterson will do ok as an analyst I suppose but I wouldn't be expecting great things, if he was that good he wouldn't have got run off. Gary seems to be putting most of his time into playing the guitar these days.

Bumpas was a great defensive mind but you're underselling how much of an impact GP had on those defenses. I agree though in the fact that I don't see him having much of an impact on our defense this year. He's nothing more than an analyst.

I have TT as the sleeper team. And I have Baylor as the favorite.
Now when you say sleeper team what exactly are you meaning? They won’t be competing for the conference probably middl of the pack if I had to guess/ Baylor about to get reminded of the pecking order this year; soft Riley is gone.

im already on record saying OU’s offense under Venables will be statistically better this year than under Riley’s 5th year as the OU coach. Pathetic No doubt OU defense will be better. I make my predictions well known beforehand not after the fact like some folks on this board. It's happening btw

Right now Dave Arranda is the best coach in the Big XII. To go from 2/7 to 12/2 and finish #5 proves my point.

I can see TT winning 8 maybe even 9 games this year. They may have finally gotten it right with Joey McGuire.

"Gary Patterson is out at TCU after over 20 years as coach of the Horned Frogs, the school announced on Sunday night". I hear you on Bumpas, but Gary had a hell of a run, a 20-year run, at a school with fraction of the resources that Texas has. Bumpass is solid but Gary lasted a long time and had some very nice results.

He won a Rose Bowl and was a thorn in Texas's side. He loves the game and wants the best for kids and as coach I like a guy that sincerely wants to see kids be the best version of themselves and puts people before logos. Gary brings a lot to the table and Texas can use everything of value we can get from any source that wants to lend a hand.

Tech as a sleeper team is a really bold prediction. I don’t see them winning more than 4 to 5 games this year. Wells left that roster in shambles.
They've hit the transfer portal harder than most teams. More than half of their starters are from the transfer portal Baylor Cupp a te transfer from a&m is probably the best one. And it seems like McGuire is really tight with all the hs coaches in TX.

Just a thought

I still think it's going to take them a year or 2 to get that roster back in line. They are in a pretty bad spot at QB. The 3 guys fighting for the job are just not very good.

Random thoughts....

I hope AZ joins the Big XII. The Big XII is the best basketball conference in the country and adding AZ would make it even stronger.

Geographically it makes perfect sense to add UT, CO, and the AZ schools to the Big XII. And UT/BYU would be the most intense rivalry the first year.

Add the 2 KS schools plus ISU and you have a Big XII west. OSU, the 4 TX schools, UCF, Cin, WV will make the Big XII East

Not so fast my friend. The governor's in OR and WA have made it clear to them they can't go anywhere with WS and ORS.

Finally
The Big XII has made progress in fb. The last 2 years they're 4/0 in P6 bowls which they've never done before. 3 of those teams were ISU, OSU, and Baylor. The latter 2 were underdogs. This could be the year that someone else from the Big XII makes the playoffs. I'm thinking Baylor.

If we go 11-1 we are a playoff team. I just don’t see it at all. You could talk me into 9 wins but no way in hell do I see 11 wins.
The obvious loss would be Alabama but that means we go undefeated through conf play. Ain't gonna happen. My guess is 8-9 wins if our anointed QB doesn't impload.
