Updated 2017 LSR Rankings
Here are a few thoughts, numbers and odds/ends.
The star breakdown this month went like this:
5.0 (1-2)
4.75 (3-8)
4.50 (9-18)
4.25 (19-30)
4.00 (31-42)
3.75 (43-71)
3.50 (72-96)
3.25 (97-100)
Player thoughts...
* Marvin Wilson and Jeff Okudah were no-brainer 5-stars for me and I was thiiiiiiis close to putting Baron Browning in that stratosphere as well, but he's the top 4.75 player on the board and a guy I view as a national top 30-50 player.
* I think Lagaryonn Carson is a special player/prospect and he checks in right behind Browning as one of two no-doubt 4.75 guys that border on 5-star status for me.
* Brock Wright moved up 20 spots and into the top 5. He might be the best pure tight end prospect from Texas in a dozen years. They just don't make them like him very often.
* Everyone likes Walker Little, but I like him probably more than most. Most have him as a Top 20-level player, but I'd take him over every other lineman in Texas at this point going into the spring evaluation period.
* Anthony Hines had a great junior season. I've come around on him as a top 10 player/prospect.
* JK Dobbins is my top-rated back in the state by a smidge.
* Sam Ehlinger is my top-rated quarterback, but Shawn Robinson is right behind him because his ceiling might be as high as anyone in this class on the offensive side of the ball.
* Texas, TCU and Oklahoma (Chris Robison) all have to feel incredibly good about the quarterback commitments they have. Same with Baylor and Kellen Mond, who is now at IMG in Florida.
* I don't understand at all the lack of love for Tylan Wallace from Fort Worth. LOVE his talent. Manny Netherly is right there with him at the top of the WR rankings.
* Montrell Estelle is as good of a football player, pound for pound, as almost anyone in the state. All that dude does is make plays all over the field on both sides of the ball.
* Overall, I was really pleased with how well the debut list held up through the 2015 season. 9 of the top 10 were top 14 prospects coming out of the summer. Plus, I had Ehlinger as a mid four-star player when everyone else thought he was a three-star.
* 10 of the top 25 (40-percent) are currently committed. Texas has three of the top 23 currently committed.
