Fascinating, Georgia Tech and Tulane left the SEC in the 1960’s

I was looking at the history of the SEC because I was curious how an institution like Vanderbilt became its only private school member.
Well Vandy was a founding member back in 1932.
But then I saw that both Georgia Tech and Tulane left the SEC in the 1960’s to become independents. Needless to say, I bet they regret that decision and would go back in time to change it if they could.
There was some other school, Sewanee, that also left in the 60’s to drop to D3. I’ve never heard of them.
