I have been Anti Fascist for my entire life. In WWII my grandfather was anti fascist.
The anti fascist movement In America has grown in the last decade as a direct result of far right extremist groups coming out of the shadows.
I deplore the actions of anyone that is burning, destroying, or harming others. I denounce all of those on the left that are using this moment to rip us apart. Will you join me in denouncing the far right groups also that are doing the same and arming for a civil war? The anti fascist movement I belong to stood up to self described Nazis in Charlottesville and elsewhere. I stand for working within the system to root out bad cops and make it easier for good cops to help make that happen.
The issues with this administration attempting to label “AntiFa” as a terrorist group are many. (I’ll leave the issue of KKK, Proud Boys,... not being named alone for now.) This declaration by the AG carries no legal weight, but what if it did? Has my statement of hating Fascism branded me as “AntiFa”? There is no AntiFa. It is not an organization. I would say the same thing if Biden tried to rule “white supremacy” a terrorist organization. Could someone now point at me and say, “Look, there’s an AntiFa! Arrest him”? What is the purpose of this attempted designation?
I walked with many lawful, peaceful protesters yesterday. I listened to an older black man trying to convince a younger man that violence was not the way. The younger man asked why peaceful protests hadn’t helped before. The older man did his best, but it was a difficult argument to make.
I have heard many people in the last few days ask, why can’t the protests all be peaceful? Well, the group I was in yesterday later had teargas deployed at it while everyone was protesting peacefully. Colin Kaepernick and others tried to be heard on this issue and were called Bastards by the President. Many people on these message boards have called them far worse.
