X-rays would only show a rib fracture. Nothing irresponsible about playing through the pain of that. If you start talking about kidney (not spleen, he was hit on right side), only an MRI would show damage.

I am talking about a rib fracture. If he has hairline fracture(s), he is at much higher risk for full breaks that could pierce organs.
