We have 8 teams who are a lock plus the winners of the ACC, Big 12, and MW conferences.

The 8 teams locked in are Oregon, Texas, PSU, ND, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, and Indiana.

That leaves one more spot. The debate will be between Bama, Miami, and South Carolina. (EDIT: add Ole Miss and SMU if they lose to Clemson)

IMO Miami should be out based on their schedule and how they frequently barely escaped.

ESPN’s Heather Dinich said yesterday the committee will honor head to head and put Bama in ahead of SC. I disagree with that. You have to look at all the factors, not just one. Bama beat SC by 2 points on their home field. They also got destroyed by the same OU team that SC obliterated in Norman. SC has been playing some of the best football in the country down the stretch, punctuated by beating Clemson in Death Valley.

If Bama goes, it’ll be because of TV sets. They’d be limping into the playoffs. It’s better for Texas, because SC would be a bigger threat than Bama to win it all.
