Fire Herman Hire Urban

For the first time, I agree it may take someone like Urban to pull us out of the hole we are in.

Won’t happen. We’re mired in mediocrity for the rest of our lives.

winning just doesn't matter at Texas. it is really true. 3 conference titles since 97?! it is really difficult to root for or support in any fashion a coach and team that still employ beck and warehime.

ask yourself this, how does tom hold an expectation of his team that they are excellent in everything they do, from peeing, hydration to eating to how they run on the field at practice to stretching and NOT HOLD WAREHIME, BECK, HIMSELF AND HIS STAFF to those same expectations. beck and warehime weren't good enough to really keep their positions so we'll hide them in another position and compensate them well beyond what they should be? for continuity?! continuity of crap and ineffectiveness!

herman has basically completed 3 years of mediocre football. his offense, defense and st are garbage. he is outcoached weekly and often. other teams play with more poise and passion and more DESIRE!

there is no reason to continue with herman. this entire program needs to be blown up. herman isn't turning this around.

ask yourself another question, who would be more successful if herman and riley switched teams and were allowed one month to prepare for the bowl?

But how about that head butt?

I guess I wouldn’t be as upset with this year if last year wouldn’t have looked so promising. It really looked like the program was on the rise after the Sugar Bowl victory last year. Even the close game against LSU gave me some hope. But boy has it been so disappointing since the LSU loss. I’m tired of being the laughing stock, it’s time to put our chips all in and make a run at Meyer.

James Franklin...who should’ve been hired in 2014
Anybody remember ole PearlandSooner/TexasSooner? He was arguing with us telling us that Franklin was the way to go. None of us were having it at the time (well at least as a leading candidate).

oldhorn, there is ZERO chance that Dabo would leave Clemson to coach Texas. None.

Bullshit. Anyone can be money whipped into anything. I would toss up a number that bama could never match and Dabo could never refuse.....plan B would be Franklin

If I was CDC, I would wait 1 more year to make a head coach change for several reasons: Herman needs another year to see if some coaching/staff changes produce better outcomes; need another year of data on Fleck & Rhule; need to see if Franklin or Meyer are interested.

I agree with this somewhat. Thing is, all Texas fans are frustrated and want to win. If Herman were fired after this season, who could Texas realistically hire? Not just another "good coach", but the coach that will put us in the elite of CFB. Other than Meyer, I don't see that type of guy out there that is available.

These guys aren't coming to Texas:

Dabo
John Harbaugh
Saban
Franklin
Riley
Gruden

Candidates:

Meyer
Gundy
Rhule
Campbell
Harsin
Greg Roman
Eric Bieniemy
Scott Satterfield
Mike Norvell

Herman has been a big disappointment. There is not disputing that. However, the pool of potential, available candidates right now isn't all that impressive. There really isn't an ideal, home run hire out there.

If Herman doesn’t make it and I don’t Think he will long term, i would like to see Texas (assuming Meyer is out of the picture) target a coach with a minimum 6 preferably 10 years at a power 5 level school that has had sustained success, well 8-9 wins a year or more. If he built the program up even better. I’d be weary of any coaches with only 2-4 years HC experience or ones that weren’t in P5 conference.

I say the hell with college coaches. Go get Jon Gruden and let him run the whole football show. Give him the same deal Saban has at Bama where he has total control without all the meddling from boosters and administrators. When Bama hired Saban, he was mostly an average NFL coach with some college experience. It worked for Bama. I think it will work for us.

Gee----- pretty sure I know someone who was pushing that narrative 5 or so years ago.

I don't disagree with what you said at all, but who fits this criteria and who realistically would consider the Texas job that Texas would want?

Meyer, Saban, and Dabo are the only home run hitters on those lists. I don't understand why nobody ever considers the other 3 most decorated college coaches out there; Pete Carroll, Jim Tressel, and - angels and ministers of grace defend us! - Bob Stoops. They sure know a hell of a lot more about winning on the big stage than all of those other flavors of the month.

What about these guys?

I can't see Texas ever hiring Leach.
Patterson will not leave TCU for Texas.
Holgorson? Seriously?
Muschamp? Does anyone think that he's a national championship caliber HC?

Unfortunately there just isn't much quality out there that is realistically available as a potential replacement when Herman is fired after this year or next year.

say what?.....some college experience?....uh hadn't he just won a Natty at LSU?....If that is where your bar is I would think you are looking for DKR and he isn't available.....

Hard to say who would consider it. someone like who you said gundy would probably be a good choice. Not splashy hire but he has shown a long body of work and has been very consistent or done an above average job. Texas is a step up, more tradition, better paying, more resources. I think he is reasonably available. Of course Meyer is available and I want us to make a strong push for him, but I doubt he ends up here for whatever reason.

i think The Texas job needs someone with a good amount of experience. Guys like, Matt Rhule, mike norvell, or even fleck (dont like his style) I’d want to see a bigger body of work. I’d want to see norvell at a P5 school first. With Matt Rhule I’d want to see if he can sustain the 9 win seasons before pursuing.

Jon Gruden got a 100 million dollar deal with Oakland. No way he is coming here lol
