I realize that James Street jersey number 16 has never been retired, so it's fair game for Arch Manning to wear it. If Arch ends up having the kind of career at UT that we all hope he does, it's quite possible that number gets retired for him. However, my beef with all of this is that No. 16 should have already been retired for James Street. National championship...undefeated at QB.....heroic wins...certainly as deserving as others who have had their numbers retired. And, he was an awesome baseball player, too. Periodically, when this topic comes up we hear rumors that The University has plans to do something to honor 'Slick', but nothing ever comes of it. I admit that I'm an 'old' and I was a freshman during the '69 undefeated season; so, I'm a bit biased. I think the number should be retired, and if the Street family wants to let soomeone wear it (Manning, for instance), I'm fine with that. Tommy Nobis' number gets pulled out of retirement fairly frequently for high performing linebackers. OK, I got this off my chest!
