When Arp safety DeMarvion Overshown committed to Texas on May 31, it caught a lot of recruiting fans by surprise. It wasn’t so much that Overshown chose the Longhorns – they had been the leader for his commitment for some time – but it was the timing of Overshown that was hard to pin down.

The standout DB doesn’t do a lot of media interviews, and when he announced his decision on Twitter, it sent the Longhorn fan base into a frenzy. Since that time, things have quieted down for Overshown, which is just the way he likes it.

“It’s been actually relaxing, not having 35 schools blowing up my phone,” Overshown said. “I’m just talking to the Texas coaches, getting to know them better and talking about what I’m going to be doing when I get here.”

Last weekend, Overshown made his first visit to the UT campus as a committed player, taking part in the Longhorns first ever Texas Heat Wave pool party. Overshown said it was a great experience overall, including getting to know his future teammates.

“It was hot, but it was fun. A lot of energy. Just getting to meet some of the recruits that were here, that was fun,” Overshown said. “Basically, we were just really getting our team chemistry down, getting to know the people we’ll be playing with in a year. Just knowing each other and spending time together was a big deal.”

A 6-3 1/2, 202-pound heat-seeking missile who likes to deliver punishing hits from his safety position, Overshown said he and the other Texas commits did some work on a couple uncommitted prospects at the event, most notable Brennan Eagles and Al’Vonte Woodard, both of whom are scheduled to announce their decisions in July.

“We were doing our best to try to get them to commit today, but they’re still going to hold to next month,” Overshown.

As for his own decision, Overshown said it really was a pretty easy choice to commit to Texas, the school he’s followed closely ever since he was young.

“I really don’t know what made me do it when I did, but growing up I was a big Texas fan. All I really knew was Texas,” Overshown said. “My peewee football coach, my dad, they were all Texas fans. So basically I grew up watching Texas and that’s all I really knew.”
