BOX SCORE

QUICK SUMMARY

Nothing cures the soul like a dominant 7-1 win over the Oklahoma Sooners. The Horns entered the second weekend of Big 12 play reeling a bit but played a well-rounded game on Friday night to take the opener of this weekend series. OU took an early lead in the first only to have the Horns score seven unanswered throughout the rest of the game. The bottom of the order was great for the Horns tonight. Daly drove in a pair, Messenger racked up four more hits and Dylan Campbell provided the highlight of the night with his first homer of the season!

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE TO NOTE

Silas Ardoin didn’t do anything remarkable tonight, but he quietly had an awesome game for the Horns. In his first plate appearance, Silas immediately was behind in the count 0-2 and eventually worked a ten-pitch walk! While Texas did not score in that inning, the walk by Silas damaged the pitch count of Bennett who the Horns got to soon after. In the following inning Silas came to bat with Hodo on third and nobody out, the catcher from Louisiana got an outside pitch and drove it to deep right field for the sac-fly. For good measure Silas picked up two hits in final two at-bats, ending the night 2-2 with four good plate appearances. Oh, and Ardoin also did a great job behind the plate for Pete Hansen. Silas threw out another runner who foolishly tried to steal on him and he also did a great job framing borderline pitches. Ardoin is hitting .304 on the year and is 15-23 throwing out runners.

PETE HANSEN

Pete Hansen saw that the Texas bullpen had been struggling lately and decided to basically take them out of the equation. After allowing two hits and a run in the first, Hansen was almost perfect for the rest of the game. Hansen was painting his fastball both inside and outside, giving him complete control of each at-bat. Pete also made sure to get ahead in the count, making it easy to manage his pitch count and put away hitters with two strikes. The big lefty was absolutely dominant any way you slice it.

TAKEAWAYS

On a night where Hansen didn’t need much run support, the offense did a nice job to scratch runs and chase Jake Bennett from the game in the sixth inning. Hansen turned in one of his best games in a UT jersey when they really needed it. It was just a great overall performance from the Horns tonight!

UP NEXT
