GAMEDAY: KANSAS
The Opening Kickoff
(This section via Scott Swegan in this week’s email release from Texas Athletics Department)
The University of Texas Longhorns head back on the road for their final regular season game away from Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. for a showdown with the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday (Nov. 19) afternoon. Kickoff at KU's Memorial Stadium has been set for 2:30 p.m. Texas enters the week 5-5 overall, coming off a 24-20 loss to No. 11/10 West Virginia on Saturday in Austin. The Longhorns are 3-4 in the Big 12 Conference. Kansas comes into Saturday's game with a record of 1-9 on the year, having lost nine consecutive games since a season opening win over Rhode Island. The Jayhawks were defeated at home Saturday by Iowa State, 31-24.

The All-Time Series
• Saturday's game will be the 16th all-time matchup between the Longhorns and Jayhawks.
• Texas has won 13 consecutive in the series and is 13-2 all-time.
• UT is 6-2 all-time in Lawrence.
• Last season, Texas defeated Kansas 59-20 in Austin.
A Texas Win Would ...
• Improve the Longhorns' record to 6-5 on the season and make UT bowl eligible for the 54th time in school history
• Make Texas 4-4 overall in the Big 12 Conference
• Stretch UT's winning streak to 14 straight games over Kansas and seven straight in Lawrence
• Be the Longhorns' second consecutive win on the road in conference play
• Mark Texas' 892nd win in program history
(*) I had to look up what a reverse mirror is, and to my disappointment, it is nothing like the Dan Buckner "reverse Oreo" of OB legend. All it means is that in some markets, the game will be on ESPN2, while in others, it will be on ABC.

TEXAS STORYLINES
- Can D’Onta Foreman take his own place in Texas history?
What can you say? He could go for 300 for versus Kansas, he could go for 200 or he could go for 150, but it seems logical to expect Heisman-hopeful D’onta Foreman to go for at least 100 yards in his 12th-straight game somehow. This would break Earl Campbell’s record and cement Foreman in Longhorns lore forever.
- Let’s remember this about Foreman
He’s leading the nation in rushing. Oh — and he’s missed a game. You talk to me about soft defenses in the Big 12 and I’ll talk to you about a young offensive line, a true-freshman QB and stacked boxes against Foreman until I'm blue in the face and you're tired of my voice.

- Clear the benches! Will we get to finally see these players in extended action?
DT D’Andre Christmas - 55 snaps this season
DT Gerald Wilbon - 30 snaps
DE/LB Erick Fowler - 24 snaps
OT Jean Delance - 3 snaps
OT Denzel Okafor - 11 snaps
RB Lil’Jordan Humphrey - 27 snaps
RB Tristian Houston - 3 snaps
LB Cameron Townsend - 7 snaps
- How will the WR rotation look this week?
It’s seeming to shift to a Collin Johnson, Dorian Leonard, Armanti Foreman group on the outside with Jacorey Warrick and Devin Duvernay on the inside and Jake Oliver as the token WR4. Versus an inferior opponent, something to monitor will be if Jerrod Heard and John Burt get extended action. Burt, most of all, seems to be in the deepest of doghouses for his terrible drops this season.
via UT
- If Malik Jefferson is healthy, how does the staff handle the third-down pressure package?
True freshman Jeffrey McCulloch handled the mike duties during Jefferson’s absence versus WVU. The interesting thing on third downs should to monitor against Kansas is if McCulloch and Jefferson are on the field at the same time in the package if Malik is back in action.

- Will Shack be ready to go at center?
Center Zach Shackelford missed at least some practice this week after re-aggravating the ankle injury which has been an issue through parts of the 2016 season. If he was unable to go or suffered an in-game setback, Elijah Rodriguez was taking the reps with the ones in his absence.
- Is anyone going to make a run in the final two games at Breckyn Hager for the lead in the Deep Dig’s defensive productivity rankings?
Things are close at the top of the rankings this season, much like last season between DL Hassan Ridgeway and LB Malik Jefferson. 2016 leader FOX Breckyn Hager remains atop the leader board but his lead is slipping.

And you can switch the topic to sports, but sometimes sports-talk causes more in-fighting than politics; if that is imaginable. So, regardless of where you stand on the coaching dilemma or on Metallica or on Donald Trump or the reverse mirror (or oreo), the Texas Longhorns have a football game at 2:30pm. This is bowl eligibility. This is extra practices for a young team.
