Consider these two scenarios:

1. Every time an illegal alien commits a particularly noteworthy crime the the right issues renewed calls for stronger border control and, in the process, would have you believe that loose borders are a significant contributor to crime in this country, and that stricter border controls would likely have prevented the most recent incident. The left is quick to jump in with arguments that stricter border control would have little or no impact on crime rates and that the right is disingenuous to act like all illegal aliens are part of the problem.

2. Every time an individual commits a mass shooting or other particularly noteworthy crime with a firearm the left issues renewed calls for stronger gun control and, in the process, would have you believe that a lack of stronger gun laws is a significant contributor to crime in this country and stronger gun laws would likely have prevented the most recent incident. The right is quick to jump in with arguments that stricter gun controls would have little or no impact on crime rates and that the left is disingenuous to act like all gun owners are part of the problem.
