Gundy’s attempt to use the refs to keep Ok St in the game couldn’t have been more blatant.

He assumed past was precedent in this series and banked on getting some early chuck-it-up defensive PI calls. The way he worked the ref on the first non-call all but said the quiet part out loud—“we always get those calls.” On a rewatch, I’m 99.9% sure he’s yelling “always” a few times to the side judge.

His entire game plan was to get calls early, which would lead to conservative coverages and a favorable box. Then, he could establish the run game.

We came out too fast and put too much pressure on Bowman so he couldn’t even put potential jump balls in the air. Before Gundy knew it we were too far ahead for his script.
