- Schedule an inspection ASAP. Call us (or a different trusted roofer) to get on your roof and assess for damage. Our inspections are free, and you will then know exactly what your options are. We take pictures and use chalk to highlight hail impacts and wind damage. This information is what you will need to effectively file a claim. Best case, you sustained no damage and will now have some peace of mind.
- If there is damage, in some cases you will need to have areas of your roof tarped to prevent any water damage.
- If you sustained damage, file a claim early in order to get to the front of the line with your insurer. Use the photos provided by your roofer in your claim.
- Choose a roofer. Do not sign a contract with any company that comes knocking on your door, or you may regret it. “Storm chasers” drive into town and use aggressive sales tactics to get you to sign on the dotted line. They may even climb onto your roof before knocking on your door and make you feel that you owe them the job. At no point should you feel any pressure or urgency to hire someone. Check reviews and hire a local company that will use the best materials and offer a warranty.
- Schedule the adjuster meeting. If possible, coordinate with your roofer so that he can be present when the adjuster arrives. Your roofer will act as your advocate and make sure that your insurance settlement includes all the items that are required by code. Too often the adjuster will leave off items, thereby reducing your settlement amount.
