Looks like Hard Knocks is dipping into the college ranks.

Here is a story from The Athletic.

HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series, which traditionally features NFL teams, is expected to instead cover the University of North Carolina football program under coach Bill Belichick this offseason, a source briefed on the negotiations but not authorized to speak publicly confirmed Friday.

Front Office Sports first reported the news.

Belichick, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, agreed in December to take over the Tar Heels’ program as coach, filling a vacancy left by Mack Brown, the winningest coach in the school’s history. Brown was fired just before the end of the 2024 regular season.

The 72-year-old Belichick signed a three-year guaranteed contractwith UNC in January — the deal gives him a $1.75 million bonus for winning a national championship on top of his $10 million annual salary.

Now, it seems “Hard Knocks” will offer an inside look at the process of Belichick building his collegiate program. The show, which also features teams during training camp and in-season, followed the New York Giants last offseason for the first time in the team’s history.

The Giants were especially scrutinized after the show — in its first offseason edition — offered a look at conversations related to Saquon Barkley and the team’s decision to not re-sign him, leading to the All-Pro running back’s departure to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Patriots have never been featured on the show, meaning it will be Belichick’s first time as a key figure.

North Carolina football general manager Michael Lombardi mentioned the conversations around “Hard Knocks” while speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Friday.

“We’ve had a lot of offers from people all over to come in and look at our program and kind of do the behind-the-scenes things, but I don’t think anything’s yet been official or signed to make it happen,” Lombardi said. “That would be the university. When you’re dealing with the brand we have at North Carolina, you’ve gotta make sure things are done right and T’s are crossed. Bill’s been talking to different people and sorting it out.”
