Herman fired yet?

A fitting first question. That would be a negative from all I can tell. However, since he's now going to have 3 bye weeks basically, that almost adds up to a fall camp of practice. Hopefully that means we can quit hearing that as an excuse for not having all the ducks in a row yet.

Are all these game postponements and cancellations a last ditch effort to keep the season alive? Do you think there's any chance they just cancel the rest of the season if next weekend ends up like this weekend?

No I think they are postponing games that hit the threshold for cases that was set before the season started so it's simply abiding by protocol from my vantage point. I don't see how you could simply cancel the season when you came into it knowing, and planning for these sorts of things to happen. I think our fanbase could be a little more freaked out by it than others since this is the first time COVID has had an effect on the program, unlike many other places. For all the complaining about the team and Herman, I continue to say, that one thing this team seems to do well is keep the virus away from the team (so far, knock on wood).

Standard scoring league: Do I continue to start Adam Thielen over Justin Jefferson or do you see Jefferson starting to become Cousins’ favorite target? (Hopkins is my WR1 so I can’t start both Vikings)

I wouldn't have said this last week given the relative target shares, WOPR, snap percentages, etc. but I'm starting to think that Jefferson could be the better start in a vaccuum. He's been such an outlier in that he continues to be SO damn efficient in the most predictive metric of all of them (when paired with volume) which is yards/route run. It's an extremely close call, though, and I would do my best to trade one of them away before your league's trade deadline just to get rid of the headache. Owning both of those guys is going to cause you heartache over the wrong decision at some point.

From past posts, i know you like growing Tomatoes. Curious what your winter season vegetable garden favorites are.

All I have right now are some compost-pile volunteer cucumbers that are really interesting and sweet but I can't figure out what they are. I've been building some enclosed, raised beds on my property through the pandemic and doing compost in place inside of them in preparation for getting back to tomato gardening next spring. I don't live on the East Side anymore with that dark, deep soil that really made it a lot easier than it is here in the Hill Country, not to mention all the deer and critters. I'll hopefully have new tomato updates next spring.

Has Herman in fact being looking for a new gig already and has Urban technically agreed in principle. Why else would Ketchum and others around the program delete and retract statements

Every coach in Herman's situation (that of a coach in limbo with precarious "support" from his AD) is going to be keeping his eyes out, but it's not really the coach doing that -- it is the agent. In this case Trace Armstrong is Herman's agent and Urban's ex-agent. I don't know Urban's current agent, but I do think both sides (UM/Texas) have an understanding of possible mutual interest, however, and that other avenues for communication could have taken place.

Will the college football playoffs happen?

Odds we get Urban?

1. Yes.

2. If you look at Vegas and the sportsbooks, as of yesterday: (via BetOnline)

Will Urban Meyer coach a College team next year?
Yes +300 (3/1)
No -500 (1/5)

That was from BetOnline yesterday. I don't know exactly how I would handicap it, but I would definitely take the YES at +300 if I had to put some scratch down on it. I think those odds are too long.

Do you have a favorite experience meeting a Texas football player (former or current)

We get to know a lot of these players interviewing them at camps and stuff as recruits (Jason, mainly but all of us kind of interview some of these guys and meet parents at various events, etc. where we can sort of keep in touch through their Texas careers despite the SID not allowing direct contact between reporters and players outside of their allowed access). My favorite two players to get to know were D'Onta Foreman and Donald Hawkins. Foreman was just an awesome story of a kid a really believed in from the start when a lot of others didn't. I timed him at around 4.4 inside the bubble at a Texas camp and thought that was insane for his size, always kept up with that family from then on. With Hawkins, he was just kind of a cool dude and a friend even while he was still at Texas. After graduation, he would, and still does, help me out with questions about OL technique and general football stuff.

Is Ketch a stooge (Level 1)?

If he's a stooge, I hate to think what I am a few pegs down the totem pole. ;)

Are you familiar with The Other Favorites? If not, what do you think?

Love it, thanks for sharing. If you like that style of music, check out Midlake if you haven't.

Now that Murphy is on board, what are our chances with Turner?

On a scale of 1-10 how far along are talks with UM?

1. I'll just go with Jason says because he knows much more than me, which is "it can't hurt!"

2. I'd guess a 3.5 or 4 if 10 = agreement in principle.

Who wins the natty?

Alabama, evergreen answer from me during the season as long as they look poised for the CFP which they do.

Is Herman the coach at Texas next year? If no who do you see Texas getting?

I think the only we he is here is if he wins out and wins the Big 12 CG. Things appear too fractured behind the scenes at this point, but I'm of the camp that has a very hard time with the idea of firing a conference championship coach. (Even though Herman has insinuated he does not think the results of this season should have any impact on evaluations of coaches -- a sentiment that could bite him in the ass should he want to point to his accomplishments from this season as a reason to keep his employment). I don't think Herman is going to win the Big12 CG, though, so I think he'll be gone. His replacement is anyone's guess, but clearly Meyer would be the odds-on favorite. I know that nobody does clown shows like Texas, but I don't think the powers that be fire Herman (especially a Herman that salvages a Big 12 CG appearance) for just anybody.

1. You have historically said some very nice things about Herb Hands ability to develop talent. In your opinion, what is limiting development with this years starters?
2. Is Karic locked in as a starter next year? Who else do you think steps up and receives significant playing time in 2021?
3. Should Kerstetter stick around as a starter for 2021?

1) I have reversed course to some degree on Hand. My original mistake was attributing the success of the 2019 OL with Braun and Kerstetter in a more favorable position as having to do with development, when I should have been lauding what I really did (AND DO STILL) believe: he is the best actual TEACHER of the position that I've studied at Texas since starting to work here. I've been going to coaching clinics for basically my whole life, even as a kid with family members who were coaches, etc. and Hand is one of the best on the chalkboard and the actual teaching of stuff. The development has not really come at Texas though, and I don't know if that is Hand or McKnight more -- but it is something. The OL next year will be significantly worse than the unit this year thanks to what we can pin on nothing else but a lack of development and a lack of high-level recruiting effort, which also falls directly on Hand. I don't want to say anything bad about the guy as a teacher or coach, but we can begin to say that he's indeed a bad recruiter and a questionable developer of talent.

2) He's not locked in but is probably their best hope to take the next step.

3) I don't know if he would even want to, but I don't think his 2020 tape will be viewed as favorably by scouts as I'm sure he hoped coming into the season. I'm not going to say he should or shouldn't do anything, but perhaps coming back and playing out a season at RT where he is better and handing over the center to Majors, etc. could be a beneficial move if he does have NFL aspirations.

Thoughts on Whiskey Myers?

Never heard of them before but from what I can tell from the first two minutes of this song, they are amazing. Wow.

What is your go to single malt scotch?

Does tequila count? ;)

I don't know if I've ever even tasted single malt scotch.

Is Dallas > Houston? And why is the answer yes?

Dallas is where my family goes to get out of my hair for Thanksgiving, so I'll have to say Dallas is better. ;)

PPR 12 team league. Would you trade

CEH
Mark Andrews

for

D. Henry

If I am getting Henry, OF COURSE. His schedule really opens up after this next week and these are the kinds of consolidation trades you need to make to improve your starting roster prior to the playoffs. DEHEMBER IS COMING!

Is it to late to expand the CFB field to 8 teams? MLB expanded the playoffs this season as did the NFL. I mean this as a COVID year modification to potentially increase TV revenue.

I would love it, but when have we seen CFB be adaptable and opportunistic in the past?

If you had to choose: Hunting or fishing?

At this point in my life, I actually enjoy hunting more than fishing, which is wild to say, but I just really have grown to love the times in hunting camp and the meat more specifically. However, fishing is a close-second and my first love. It is also something I'll be able to do long after the last of my hunting days are over, so I'll have to say fishing.

...what are your thoughts overall on leadership and will they be willing to make tough decisions in all areas to bring back success in Football and unify the University as a whole?

Let me just say that some of the leadership you are referencing don't really see the decisions involved as "tough" while others surely do. Nothing about this is easy for guys like Del Conte and Hartzell but the folks they'll lean on to help with the process who donate lots of money don't care that they're in an uncomfortable position.
