Herman's intro PC

I thought the PC went well. I found it interesting that Mack Brown was there, a good thing. He has Browns ear, and i believe that will help SIGNIFICANTLY getting the proverbial "bb's back in the box".

My 1st thoughts,he has coached at a lot of different schools, stated to win is hard work and I think he learned a lot at Ohio state.I think he will be a good recruiter for Texas since he has recruited for Sam Houston state,Texas State,Rice and Houston and if Texas does not have the players now,he will go find them, after all,he is at the Flagship now.

We just can't get rid of MB! Something stinks when MB comes around, he needs to go and retire in NC

I disagree. Mack Brown should have left after 2009 season probably.....but.....He won a lot of games FB!......he should have won a few more conf champs no doubt....not get blown out against ou...but winning 10 games for however many years in a row is not EASY....we all got to see Texas hoist the National Championship Trophy. Do you know how many schools fans would love to see that once in their lifetimes? I think Mack should be respected for what he did at Texas. It seems only Texas fans are not respectful of him truthfully. Out here in Va the people say he was great at Texas. Just never should have lost that fire he had when he got to Austin.

This was way less awkward than Stong's press conference. I thought Herman had some great answers and really stroked the Texas High School coaches egos. My favorite answer was from the question about the pressure on the players to win and if it was too much. He replied along the lines of pressure is that uneasy feeling you have when you are not prepared. Pressure is self inflicted... basically said f u to pressure, I though it was great.

Agree. Not sure why some fans have forgotten what Mack brought back to UT but I guess some have short memories.

In watching Mike and Mike I can see the guy is certainly a politician. Shifty and danced around a couple of questions, without flat out lying. I like a straight shooter. But perhaps that's what it takes to deal with some of the off field pressures at Texas. Just hope he doesn't deal with recruits and players like that.

I'm only hearing "He is a liar" from Cougar fan. What did he lie about?

Some quotes without a lot of context that were interpreted as indicating that he was not leaving Houston.

Houston coach Tom Herman was emphatic Friday that reports he was working toward deal to become the next coach at LSU or another school were "false."

Prior to the Cougars facing Memphis, Herman was asked by ESPN announcer Cole Cubelic about how the talked to his team about the possibility he would not be the coach next year.

"Honesty. Don't believe anything that you read," Herman said.

Herman was then asked if the reports were false.

"Absolutely. Sure."

He then added: "There's nothing to handle except beating Memphis."

I have absolutely no problem with him lying to the media, every coach does it. He didn't lie anyway because I'm pretty sure the reports that he was signing with LSU were in fact false. They were reporting it at that time as if it was a done deal.

Why is it ok for a commit to "lie" to a coach or an athlete to lie to a school or fan base about coming back but it's not ok for a coach to "lie" to a reporter? I wouldn't have even answered the reporters questions BUT then the media would've spinned it anyway and the fan base would've been questioning his "no comment" comment. It's a no win situation!

I think it was a smart move to invite Mack there. Shows that he is willing to bring everyone back together and not segregate. He understands the politics at Texas.

The first thing Mack did was invite DKR back and it went a long way to getting all the major boosters on board. This is why Mack lasted as long as he did. Proves Herman learned a thing or two from Mack.

Some of those questions were stupid and didn't have an answer, or the answer was obvious. You should watch a Greg Popovich interview, those type of questions get answered in a way that makes the person asking feel like an idiot.

Context is everything. Some of those questions were answered truthfully because he wasn't doing a thing, it was his Agent handling things.

Houston coach Tom Herman was emphatic Friday that reports he was working toward deal to become the next coach at LSU or another school were "false."

Here is what I'm talking about, he wasn't, they were working towards a deal to make him their coach, all he was doing was his job. Of course he knew what was happening, but I'm positive he wasn't working on it, they were.

Prior to the Cougars facing Memphis, Herman was asked by ESPN announcer Cole Cubelic about how the talked to his team about the possibility he would not be the coach next year.

Sounds like a very political answer, that answer is neither a yes or a no.

He then added: "There's nothing to handle except beating Memphis."

For him this was true, everything being handled was by his agent and LSU and Texas. He wasn't doing anything other than preparing his team.

You have to know that in this situation Houston likely told him how he should answer this. At this time, I'm sure Herman knew he wouldn't be back, but news like that would lower the moral of the players. A lie is better than the truth if it means keeping them up for the win. Military leaders do the same thing all the time. Moral is everything.

First, I don't really consider either lying at face value. It's no different than you telling your high school sweetheart you are going to be together forever. Feelings change and just because you expressed your feelings at one point in time and they have since changed doesn't make you a liar. To your main point the ones that are actually being paid millions of dollars are held to a higher standard (and should be) than the athlete.

Greg Popovich isn't were I'd go for a parallel with his interview. More like Nick Saban

You are right. I was using Greg as an opposite comparison to Herman. What I heard from Herman was a lot of coach speak. He was answering the question using a lot of fluff.

No its called Alabama and no backup QB and players who couldn't play and Guns in our locker room, assault on women and and almost destroying our FB program or did, take ya pick and take almost 4 yrs to clean up his mess he left

Lets hope he didn't learn too much from Mack

All that and when he was running the program we only went 5-7 one time. The year he was forced to retire/fired we went 8-5 now he may have not recruited well later in his career and possibly left the cupboard bare but going 6-7, 5-7 and 5-7 in no way should be Brown's fault. I'll probably get some hate mail for this but oh well. Also I don't ever remember Brown keeping rapist on the roster but I could be wrong. Not sure what guns in our locker room mean but you do know that students can now carry guns on campus. Just saying.

The way you're making it sound is that we had Briles running the show. Was it really that bad?

I don't have a problem with Herman not talking or misleading the media. There were reports he told the players he was staying. If that's true I kinda have a problem with that. Wish coaches would just be up front with at least their players on those things

Does your boss run all his personal decisions by you before he makes them?

back to the topic, once herman finished his prepared portion of his schtick, he looked people in the eye and seemed to have a little fire in his eyes when the topics deemed it.
