Horns not in top 5 for Evans

I talked to my contact at North Shore today. He told me that Evans loves Texas and has gotten pretty close to Coach Herman. He said that the reason why Evans didn't list Texas in his top five was because they had been pushing him for a commitment early and explained to him that they wouldn't recruit or sign any other RB's if he would commit now. Zachary is just not ready to commit to any school early. a&m tried the same thing, which is why he doesn't list them. According to the source at NS, it's not over. Even though it's not a high percentage, Evans could still end up at Texas. Herman will continue to keep the lines of communication open. This ain't over yet for Texas. Herman is a smart guy and a great recruiter. I think that he'll take a step back and reassess his strategy with Evans. Stay tuned to this one.

Hopefully he's cool with McGowan then

As an OU fan I am very cool with McGowan. I heard Jase isnt a fan of Evans.

@FlourBluffHorn
I concur, Mayfield is better than Murray. Why'd he sit at aggie? Well they had a carousel of qbs and when your best talents are freshman it's not always a good sign. This is the hardest position for a freshman to play and play well. Murray and Mayfield are prime examples of that.

You think aggie and alabama just gave them away? Hell naw, nobody would just do that, those guys wanted out. Well Hurts didnt really want out, but he didnt want to be qb2 either. He did his business and he went to OU for 1 reason and that's IMO to get to the NFL and if Riley cant get a qb to the nfl nobody can. And Murray did want out of a toxic situation at aggie, cant blame him.

Evans "no disrespect" tweet doesnt sound like this, but whatever. If Texas beats LSU and OU and wins the conference we are in the playoff almost certainly. That will change things.

I hope Texas stays away from this kid. I have a feeling Herman will end up with nothing if they put all their hopes in him. He seems very sketchy, if they convinced him to commit early and didn't recruit anymore RBs I have no doubt he would be taking visits and leave Herman high and dry in the end. Like I said a few weeks ago, lock Robinson up and if Evans decides he wants to come then let him in too. I also feel like Evans will be a high transfer risk if things don't go according to his plan from the start.

This is stupid. Why would it matter it the game ticket said "Sugar Bowl" or "Playoff". Only a bunch of pussies would would think this way.

You might take this personal as well, but it was reported on 247 that Evans want to join a program that will compete for national championships. Is playing in a meaningless sugar bowl more important to you than playing for national championships?

Last jawja championship was when? When did jawja last play in a NT game? We played in 05 and 09. How old are you? If Texas claimed MNC's like $ec schools, we would have 9. That's almost 10% of MNC's. Someone should tell Evan's to read a history book.

I agree. He runs behind a stout HS line at North Shore. How many stellar kids run behind bad OL's that could be 5 stars at NS? We are building a top 3 OL at Texas. There are many capable RB's that will be able to do what Evan's would do at Texas. Let's make a kid who is 100% Longhorn a first round pick, not a kid with his hand out.

Since you are motivated by anger I will end with the predilection for your longhorns to make playoffs.

Who are these angry people you refer to? Some of us are disappointed and some saw this coming. We missed on Adrian Peterson and two years later we won a Natty. We will survive not getting Evans and any other runningback out there.

I will point one thing out, we have gotten the QBs we wanted regularly and our oline recruiting has been excellent. The writing is on the wall, we will be making our move into the playoffs. Texas has some good backs right now, and they will be around for the next 2 to 3 years. What Texas doesn't have is a featured back and these guys have chosen to look at other schools. No big deal moving forward, as long as we have great QBs we will win a ton of games. We have the one thing that blOwU doesn't have, a defense.

We've loss several 5 stars from the state of ga I just don't get bent out of shape about it. Charlie Ward, Cam Newton, Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence (just to name a few) all left the state and won national championships and 3 of them beat Nick Saban. You guys will be fine because Tom Herman is a BEAST!

These kids want the coach to play kissy face and give in to their demands. I don't think herman did what he wanted so he bailed. F him. Let him and his thug friend go to jawja... a lesser.

You think Saban plays kissy face but Herman doesn't?

Where did I say that? I said saban has a bagman deliver a wad of cash before official in home meetings. Do a search for confessions of a bagman.

It's obvious that herman would not agree to guarantee that Evan's and his buddy would start freshman year.

You have issues.

With all due respect, if Georgia views the Sugar Bowl as meaningless unless its a playoff game, why would anyone want to go to a program like that?

That reeks of immature, crybaby behavior. Texas popped Georgia in the mouth in that game and Georgia wants to act like its because its "meaningless."

Super lame man.

My opinion on why the sugar bowl was meaningless will ultimately infuse more anger or give the impression that I'm denigrating your team, so I'll defer.

I think bama will ultimately sign Zach Evans but I would love to see him do his thing in Athens.

Youre really smug. Denigrate our team? You can imagine whatever you want but you guys got owned on the field and that's all that matters. Your coach said you guys were ready and prepared and that you just got beat.

Your opinion is yours but you come across as arrogant and naive. And you're on a Texas board so you're little more than a troll at this point.

I don't care if Georgia was ready or not, Texas beat their ass and that is a fact.

Mike Tyson wasn't ready when he fought Buster Douglas, doesn't change the fact that he got knocked out and lost the title.

Here is what I knew going into that game. I knew that Georgia couldn't defend out big receivers and I knew Georgia couldn't pass on our defense. I was very confident Texas could beat Georgia. The only thing that surprised me was how our defense stopped your running game, that I didn't expect.

The real fact is most of the SEC offenses are a joke, about as tough to stop as the Wing-T. Big 12 might not have the athletes that the SEC has, but the offenses are light years ahead of the rest of the college game. Texas has seen it all so stopping a Georgia offense was pretty easy.

calm down, dude.

you said these kids wanted a coach to play kissy face with them and that's the reason texas is not in the final 5.

alabama is in the final 5.

maybe you said something about a bagman later in the thread but that's not what the initial comment was.

Evans leaving Texas off the list is a blessing. Now we can put all our efforts into another back. What would be horrible if we were his second choice and made his commitment in late January when all the other top backs made their choice.

Yes, that would be a bad thing, but Texas isn't naïve enough to put all of their eggs in one basket to potentially come up empty handed. I can promise you that Herman is still recruiting Evans and that there is still interest on Evans' behalf in the Horns.

Here is what I think. If we were on Evans list, Texas would in turn slow play everyone else with the idea of Evans being the goal. Guys like Bijan Robinson probably picks Ohio State because Texas isn't committed to him. Then come January Evans picks Bama, with Texas a close second. Now who do we pick since all the other elite backs have committed elsewhere.

Yes, we are still recruiting Evans, and probably every other 5'star we have offered, but I guarantee we are recruiting Bijan Robinson more than anyone because he is elite and really interested in Texas.

From what I read, Bijan will be making his commitment in August or September, that is plenty of time to not only continue to recruit the other elite backs, but if he decides to go to Ohio State, then Texas has time to change their strategy.
