@@@@@ HOUSTON ASTROS vs Windy City South Siders @@@@@

Ok, I know I’ve mentioned this, but in the spirit of old Astrodome graphics and in a mildly intoxicated state I feel the need to say I was a stock boy in the Dome in high school.

Me and my buddy, who lived on the same street as some middle manager for the concession vendor at the time, were in charge of stocking the Dome concession stands summer of 75 and 76. Dogs, buns, peanuts, beer kegs….that was me.

They still sell booze in the club seats. Level 1
I literally wanted to get a soda or a water for my son. No dice. All concessions were closed. All the water fountains were shut down due to Covid. There's literally no way to get a something to drink in MMP unless you are in one of the clubs. Seems pretty closed-minded to me.

Not arguing.

Just a little note about the standings in the AL. There are now 5 teams at the top of the 3 AL divisions that each only have 28 loses. The only difference is some teams have played a game or 2 more so there are 5 teams that have between 42 and 44 wins. Those teams are the A's (44), Red Sox (43), Rays (43), White Sox (43), and Astros (42)

It's fair to say things are getting a little tighter in the standings.

Astros have done pretty well against 3 of those teams. I don’t think they have played the Rays yet.

I’m sure it’s been discussed here and elsewhere, but our recent offensive explosion has to have something to do with the new sticky substance enforcement rules and the spin rates dropping, yes? Pitchers have already changed their approaches, and the more offensive teams got an immediate mid-season bump, and we’re as well positioned as anyone to take advantage. This popped to mind given that we’re facing DK today and his slider and change must have dropped off in the past bit.

Did some googling to see if I could spot an article discussing this and couldn’t quite find someone analyzing what I’m looking for (e.g., analysis of teams that are best at hitting off speed pitches given current absurd spin rates and who, I’d think, would be best positioned to most succeed in this new era).

You can see who has played the fewest against the top team in the AL. Boston and Houston are the top 2 of the 5 in that list.

This can be done in Baseball Savant with the right search and filters used. I looked at Keuchel and don't recall his spin rates dropping much but, I will look again. Cease was the only one that stood out.

I just don't see much w Keuchle.

Just further proof the team with the best record in baseball isn’t necessarily the best team. Aka The White Sox.
You can also see who's faced those teams the most and who has the best numbers on both sides of the ball. :) I might be a bit too critical of our staff but considering the compettition they've faced and the numbers vs those 4 other teams they've been...not bad at all. a .600 OPS and .267 wOBA vs the other 4 I'll take all day long.

I tend to think it's more about the Astros team approach to waiting for better pitches and not totally selling out for home runs to some extent too.

I tend to think it’s more about @magnahorn having the juice!
Lest we forget, the team has taken facts like over half our relief staff is on IL, Brantley and Alvarez have been on and off IL, Tucker recently with the sick, Aledmys Diaz as our super sub on the IL, our bu catch Jason Castro just off IL, LMJ just off IL, Framber Valdez recently back from a broken finger, and now Alex Bregman on IL for no idea how long, and yet this team just keeps ticking against all the best teams in baseball.

Sorry for the run-on sentence @UTeach!

Even with all that we ae positioned right at the top of the AL along with the other 4 top teams.

If there was ever a team that deserves a little respect it is this team.

If there was ever a team that deserves a little buy-in from its majority owner and its GM it is this team.

Come on guys, go get this team a little bullpen help and make this team the favorite from the AL to win it all.

When we get all our guys back and IF they add an arm or two to the bully then the rest of MLB better hang on to their hats. The Astros will be too busy kicking a** to take names
