As a HC yes. As a OC he's coached in numerous big games. Bigger than the Fl state game. I think there's a hell of a lot more pressure being the OC at tOSU than the HC at Houston. That's just my opinion.

Epic article. Hard to believe the AD would take a dive for a season to get rid of Strong. But curious about the Horn fans' reluctance to consider an upcoming assistant. Just like SC fans, you guys think you are entitled to an experienced head coach from a major program. Saban I get. But not that many successful ones want to start over. Mack was an exception. OU's 3 home run hires were all assistant coaches. Royal was great but the other head coach hires not so much. Akers had a few good years. Don't recall if McWilliams a head coach before. But think outside the box.

I know some criticize me about my argument on matching spending with the others (some spend 50% more) but if you take care of the dated infrastructure and support I think Charlie will be fine. Just right now there are too many band aid fixes where the team is not running like a well oiled machine. Prioritize the problems as they effect recruiting, spend accordingly and then watch out, the giant will be awsken!

McWilliams was doing very well as head coach at Texas Tech when we hired him. Ackers was head coach at Wyoming before Texas, although both were an assistant under Royal. What killed Ackers was alienating every HS coach in Texas with his arrogance.Ackers came within a muffed catch of a punt against Georgia for a Natty in 1983 I think.
