Realistically, it's going to be awhile before we sniff a playoff birth. If 2019 is as advertised for oline then possibly by this groups redshirt soph-junior seasons. I think we need to keep TH and get some consistency. We may be in a different conference by the time we are good again.

I wish I could say next year or the year after but are we going to be dominant on the the o and d lines that quickly? Probably not.

If you want to see what a fast turn around looks like, check out UT basketball. The only thing that will stop this team will be the officials.

It is Shaka’s 3rd year, I don’t know if I would call it a quick turn around. Nonetheless, you are right. The team looks to be decent this year. I am pretty sure we will see noticeable improvement next year in football.

You have to recruit the top talent in the State to come to Texas especially at the QB position,If you look around today you find Texas Qb's starting at Ohio state,Auburn,Alabama,Okla lite, and likely Heisman winner at Oklahoma.Mack was able to do this not every year but quite a few but what he did with the talent is another question.

Mens bb is a bit different due to the constant 1&doneitus. I agree 100% the football team will be much better as soon as next year. Every program has to deal with injuries but we got the chit end of the stick this year for sure. Didn't help that we were already thin as a deli slice on the o-line coming in to 2017.
Get the guys healthy and back to playing in their true spots and we'll win a couple more.
I expect 9-10 wins barring another crippling rash of injuries in '18

Bball is a quicker turn around than football. Shaka has a very talented team. Should be fun. TH said it best when he stated linemen should redshirt and not start til their redshirt sophmore season at the earliest. Take what you want from this statement, but we won't be good til we are dominant on both lines.

You can turn around basketball quicker that football. Recruits make a quicker impact, more teams make the tournament. Really just one or two top level guys. Shaka is doing fine. Last year was rough. Year 1 was ok. Unfourtanitly cams injury kept that season from being what it could have. Year 3 under Shaka will be more what we can expect long term. A ton of talent on that team, and guys in ther proper roles.

Football you just need a bigger volume of stud players and freshman don’t generally make a huge impact. At least not in mass.

I say we aren’t truly playoff contenders until 2019 at the earliest and more likely 2020

Who the hell knows? Since the time after DKR won his last national championship, Texas is not even a top-10 program by most measures. And since the time the bottom fell out on Akers' tenure, we're not even a top-15 program by most measures. Despite having everything any program could want, we've just pissed away another decade. Eight f*cking years since this program has lost fewer than four games in a season (and in seven of those, we lost more than four games). I'm beginning to doubt that this athletics program will ever be run in a way that actually fully exploits its potential.

And slow your roll on Shaka's team, my friend. It's great that we're not trailing the likes of Incarnate Word with under three minutes to play, but we haven't played anyone. Northwestern State ranked just above 300th in Pomeroy's rankings last year. That's a team that even an average P5 team should demolish.

While it’s true that our first game wasn’t against the best comptition last years team couldn’t put 100 on anyone, and there is just more talent. Mo Bamba is more advanced than Allen was last year. There are 2 maybe 3 1st round NBA picks on this roster. I’m not saying they’ll win the national title, but they’ll be in the top 10-15 by seasons end imo. They will get their first test against Butler and maybe Duke.

We already beat aggy which just kicked the crap out of west virginia. That's pretty damn good. I agree, this team is primed to finish strong as it has a lot of youth. Free throws, 3 pt and shooting %'s,fouls, and offensive rebounding are concerns but our athletic ability and defense are very good. Work on the problem areas and work on winning each game.

True, but our admin is more concerned about adhearing to the latest politically correct requirement than excelling at low brow subjects like sport. Sport with student loan accumulation is host for the pc leviathan that is the campus culture. 1990-1994 I was there.

I don’t know what the “PC culture”. Has to do with winning in athletics. I think people just like to use that as a reason for everything. It isn’t hurting Alabama, Clemson, it isn’t hurting Texas Vollyball or women’s basketball. It isn’t hurting Shaka from getting maybe the top pick in the nba draft on campus.( we will see if he can translate that in to wins). We just have to do better both in the athletic department in terms of leadership and coaching and evaluating players.

I didn't say they wouldn't be significantly better. There's a lot of room between 11-22 and being good enough that "the only thing that will stop this team will be the officials." I hope you're right about their year-end ranking, but that seems a little high to me. We'll see.

Yeah. To me it will depend on two guys. Matt Coleman, and Eric Davis. If Coleman becomes the leader and point guard people beleive he can be, and Davis regains the shooting form we saw his freshman year. I think this team can match up with anyone. They’ll be a lot more fun to watch if nothing else.
