Augie Garrido was clearly a splash hire. He was widely considered the best college baseball coach at the time.

I guess you could make a case for Schossnagle even though he's never won anything. We stole him from aggy and he's considered one of the top coaches in baseball.

The only other candidates I'd consider splash hires would be Shaka Smart and Tom Herman as they were both considered young up and comers.
