My cousin out in Elgin posted these pics on Facebook, he was walking out to get the mail and heard rustling in the leaves and saw that a Copperhead and coral snake had been fighting and the coral snake had killed the copperhead. Then he killed the coral snake.
The pics show a very long coral snake. I know the pic he shot with the measuring tape cuts off at 14", but if you look at both images, the snake has 15 red bands while only 9 are revealed in the pic next to the measuring tape (fisherman's trick we ALL learned very early growing up). While I don't completely believe it was a 3-footer, I do believe it was at least a 30-incher.
The snakes are out in central Texas, be careful.
