Working from home these days has me considering trying to do it full time even after the pandemic. If I could convince my bosses to agree, then there really is no reason I couldn’t move back to Texas.

So...if I were to move to Austin, which area should I move to? It’s just me and my wife, no kids. We want a single family home, preferably with a pool. We can afford up to $450k but the lower the better.

So what say you Orangeboods?

Hey - Real Estate broker with Realty Austin here. There are many factors to consider and without knowing more about you than what you posted, I'd suggest looking at parts of South & East Austin, and potentially North-Central Austin, if you're looking for a single-family home. If you're open to condos, there will be options downtown and more central. I'm happy to show you some options virtually on our website so you can get a 'feel' for the market and what you get for the $$.

Thanks. Again, this is purely hypothetical for now so my wife and I can fantasy surf online.

We would definitely want a single family home and ideally have a pool.

Native Austinite here. Just off the top of my head, the only neighborhoods where you can walk to bars/restaurants (excluding expensive condos downtown) would be maybe the Domain area, Mueller area, South Congress, East 1st-6th St...?

COVID may help you but $450 won't buy much in Austin for a SF home. If you want to live fairly far out that figure may work but anything fairly close in will be $500K and forget the pool. Maybe we will see a correction in the real estate prices in the short term coming out of this mess but I doubt they hold for long. People are still going to want to move to Austin.

@Seaflea23 you are needed. I will say that was our budget and same wants the areas we ended up looking in were sw austin, buda, dripping, round rock, pflugerville. I really wanted dripping springs but we found a great home in pflugerville.

Thanks guys. Truly, if...and I mean IF, we are able to work from home permanently, we will look at Austin, Dallas and Oklahoma City (where my wife is from). So we’re really kind of looking everywhere.

We both love Austin and would have a lot of fun living there. My wife’s sister is in San Antonio so we would be close to the nieces and nephews. I’m from Dallas and my family still lives there. And we used to live in OKC, have a lot of friends there, and the housing dollar goes much further there.

Austin would be a tough find. Buda, San Marcos and New Braunfels you could definitely find that and not a bad drive to San Antonio.

If Georgetown area isn’t too far out for what y’all need, it should certainly be under consideration as well.

Bump just to get an opinion on the Cedar Park neighborhood I linked in the post right above.
