I've been watching Texas football since 1977, of course I was only 9 years old so I really didn't start to really understand the game until about high school. But since I've been watching Texas football, I can tell you I haven't seen a better more talented backfield. I once said about the 2005 team that there were at lease 6 guys in that defensive backfield I identified as capable of playing in the NFL. And I was right. As of right now I have seen enough of Brandon Jones, BJ Foster, Caden Stern, and Anthony Cook that I can tell you they are all NFL level talents. I'm on the fence with a couple others but if you asked me this question about the Texas defensive backfield going into the Sugar bowl, I would have added Boyd and Davis.
I have really good feelings about Jalen Green and maybe Kobe Boyce, and I think Demarvion Overshown, but I'm not sure if he is a DB or a linebacker. Either way I think he will be a NFL guy as well.
This team is not lacking in defensive back talent. I think they can go toe to toe with Bama and any other group in the country. I know playing in the Big 12 they will be much more battle tested when it comes to pass defense than those other groups.
Something else I will add, being a Texas defensive back has become a fraternity of sorts, our past greats are as much recruiting for us as our coaches. When you have guys like Bryant Westbrook, Aaron Ross, Michael Griffin, Earl Thomas, and Michael Huff actively supporting the program, it creates a culture that kids are drawn to.
