I never thought I would say this about TT

but they're starting to make me pay closer attention than I have in the past. And the reason for that is their ad Kirby Hocutt. He hired Tim Tadlock and they just made their 4th appearance in the last 6 years in the CWS. Then he hired Chris Beard and in the last 2 years they got to the elite 8 last year, and the title game this year. They were a 3 point shot with 15 seconds left from winning it all. And they had no tradition in either sport so I can't help but pay attention when Kirby Hocutt hired Matt Wells as his next fb coach. Yes, he did strike out on Kliff Kingsbury but who knows maybe he's on his way to his next great hire in Matt Wells. He's an under the radar hire but he did go 11/1 at Utah State and if you can go 11/1 at place like Utah State that's a hecuva an achievement.

Now you can take this any way you want but for the next four years we are having a home and home against TT on the day after Thanksgiving. I can enjoy having an instate rival in the season finale. The last 4 years the visiting team has won in the final minute. If Matt Wells turns out to be a good hire than Kirby Hocutt will take a place among the top 12 ad's. And from top to bottom the Big XII had their best season in 12 years and by that I mean titles and playoffs. Although OK won the Big XII and made the playoffs again, TX won the Sugar Bowl, Baylor won in women's hoops, and I just talked about TT. From top to bottom the Big XII got a much needed succesful year in athletics.

Don't sleep on Utah State. When I was up there in Clearfield, I took notice of them. I don't know who their AD is, but he always seems to find great coaches. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Tech has a great coach.

Something I didn't realize. Lubbock is 5 hours 45 minutes from San Antonio. And 5 hours 45 minutes from Dallas.

I hear ya. When our family went on vacation to Palo Duro Canyon we noticed that Lubbock was 400 miles from SA and Austin as well. And it was the same thing with Amarillo. What can I say Texas is an asymmetrical shaped state I guess. But Lubbock is isolated it's also 300 miles from the Metroplex.
