If I Was Coach!

you don't like that i call you out for some your stupid old geezer nonsense? and i stand by my statement-- defense has been beaten to crap. i thought they were decent except against the deep balls until late. not great. not dominant by any stretch. but decent. the offense sputtered in the red zone. the push off on johnson was a killer. the missed fg sucked. the INTs were bad. but again-- gary patterson is really really really good. i can tell when we have bad coaches. manny diaz was bad-- it is no surprise that he is failing at miami. shaun watson was bad-- it is no surprise he ruined the upward trajectory at pitt. duane akina as a coordinator was bad, but he was humble enough to know that. applewhite was uninspiring, at best-- no surprise it went sideways at houston. harsin was really good. robinson, tomey, chizik, boom were all good. i'm gonna say it-- based on the results, dondryesdale was really good. and know what-- orlando is good. 4 of the 22 in the 2-deep are upper-classmen on defense. 4. of 22. and then you tack on the injuries... you're scraping the bottom of the barrel for players. and yeah they were 4 star players, but they get better with reps. they learn how hard they have to play by playing on special teams, and these guys haven't had that. next year, provided sam stays upright, we're legitimate national title contenders. we are. or we can do something stupid and start all over again.
I agree with most of what you said except the beginning and end.
We should not wonder through the wilderness longer than 5 years under ANY head coach (or coordinators) before making a coaching change.

For those who don't realize what analysts we hire are supposed to do---

Their job is break down our offense and defense and game plan what they would do if they were coaching against us. They are basically the boxing equivalent of sparring partners. They provide "outside of the box" break downs of the team's strengths and weaknesses.

I frequently see Fedora on the sidelines and everytime I think the same thing. Either he is a very bad scout or his report is laying on someone’s desk unopened. Then again, he can have the best scout report known to man, but if your OC can’t call plays in real time to adjust to what the defense is doing, then there is your problem. Herman has to know 100% the origin of the problem and fix it. Maybe he is waiting till season’s end, I don’t know.

This & hire a great defensive coordinator. As far as I’m concerned, Briles has paid his debts to the NCAA & Big 12.
Haha I agree but I wonder what my buddy @Scholz would say about this hire? $100 says he’d be ok with it and take off the holier than thou robe if it meant 10+ wins a season. Chucklz

So you've switched from plastic to live bait...... ?

They shoulda learned how to play the game while in HS..they got all them Stars...so their is no excuse about knowing how to block,,,we'll see how the Contenders are next yr...wouldn't bet money on the top 10 next yr
Do you know how many of these kids that are on our roster were the best player on the field any time they stepped on it? Virtually all of them. Do you know how many times these types of players can get their high rankings and scholarship offers just by being a better athlete than everyone they line up against?
Do you also realize that virtually any coach says that the biggest jump in player performance is between their 2nd and 3rd year? Do you know how many players, especially on our defense, are in their 3rd year? 4 of 22. You can be the best athlete with all of the stars you can count, but until you get live game reps and have the time to mature physically and mentally you are going to get beat.
Let's take Sam for example, he played in one of the toughest high school districts in the state, was a 4 star recruit, the #4 rated player at his position. His freshman year, he completed 57% of his passes and had a TD to INT ratio of 1.57. His sophomore year, he completed almost 64.7% of his passes and had a TD to INT ratio of 5.0. So far in his junior year, he is completing 65.7% of his passes with a TD to INT ratio of 3.28 (includes the 4 he threw on Saturday). All of that to say, just look back at what Orlando was able to do last year with a roster that had a ton of experience. In 2017, we had upperclassmen at 17 of 22 spots on the defensive depth chart, and had a top 30 defense. In 2018, we had upperclassmen at 16 of the 22 spots and our defense dropped to 58. In 2019, we had upperclassmen at 6 of the 22 spots and our defense has dropped to 98. Reps matter, upperclassmen matter, and currently we don't have either.

Hook, line and sinker my friend. Clob you know better than me that Briles is one of the best coaches to come along and you yourself can attest that you aren’t going to win running choir boys out there. You’ve got to muzzle them and release them on game day

I don't want to win that way. I don't want to be Miami in the 80s or Florida st in 90s or Oklahoma every day since the 1950s.

We are better than that.

And now, ironically, something I was completely against, the paying of athletes for their likeness, has happened and we will be the greatest beneficiary of the rule---- and I don't want to win that way either.

Orlando is out at the end of the year. CDC was pissed after the OU loss not because we lost but the way we looked and how unprepared we were. CDC was VERY embarrassed about leaving TCU only to have his old employer crap all over his new employer. Major's name is being floated around as OC, which I think is stupid.

Fedora, who we've hired as an analyst is not even in the running.

They provide "outside of the box" break downs of the team's strengths and weaknesses. They are basically one foot in and one foot out. We pay them to for their non-homogenized thinking. And if an analyst like Fedora can't do his job as an analyst, how the fvck can he do it as boss man.

Bosses have grown tired of Tom's arrogance and stubbornness. They compare it to Mackovic's. Yes he's much better with the media and recruits and truly loves the kids, Mackovic hated us and we hated him-- but Herman is a player's coach.
But he's arrogant, hard headed and HAS to be the smartest guy in every room.

That's all I got.
ive met Tom and he is one of the most unlikable people i believe i have ever met.

But as a fan what are you going to do about it? Do you buy season tickets? I don’t think you do. You going to lead a mass protest? Stop watching games? I truly don’t know the full story on Briles or what he knew and didn’t know but he’s a hell of a coach and would work wonders at Texas imo. But the powers that be may stick with the status quo? And btw, both Herman and Strong have both had allegations thrown at them very publicly about their morality so........kind of hard to draw a line in the sand

Now that this NCAA rule has been passed the Big Cigars will hold a summit probably out at Spanish oaks or Barton Creek resort and they will all sit down with a list of UT grads that own big companies or are in high places at big companies, and they will develop a plan on how to get each and every one of them on board. Then the money wheel will start to turn. There will be bag men hired to deliver offers to the top players at each position, and promise them likeness deals with companies like DELL or McCombs auto, the bass family, the piepers, Jamal family-- all the big dogs.
And then the bidding wars will begin. And we'll certainly win most of them.

I just don't want to win that way.
