If the B12 breaks apart

Which (new) conference would that (most likely) be?
B1G if I had to guess right now. There are some issue if that plan also included OU, primarily, that the B1G may deny OSU. That would have to be worked out.

We need to stop all this other conference talk immediately. Imo, our biggest priority is getting Texas Longhorn fb back to its rightful place and I'm thinking of nothing else. I still believe in coach Strong and our two wins against Oklahoma and Baylor give me reason to think he can still get the job done. Same goes for mens hoops and I think coach Smart is off to a good start.

Hard not to think about. The idea of our most exciting home games being vs Baylor, TCU, or some other regional school is pretty depressing. The flagship school of Texas should be playing other traditional football schools.

As if our threads and posts could simply will our way back to greatness? Forums exist exactly for this reason: to talk about dumb hypotheticals and share hot sports opinions.

Notre Dame?

If the big 12 breaks apart the only real choice would be to try and get OU to go with us to the SEC. Make it a 16 team conference and Bump the Alabama schools to the east. Every divisional road game would be reasonable driving distance. Would play OU, Arky and Aggy every year.

That would be my preferred outcome by far, but the academic side's anti-SEC bent means it's very unlikely to happen.

I absolutely hate the idea of being a geographic isolate in the deadly-boring, cold-weather Big Ten West, but that's probably where we're headed.

The Geographically Isolation killed the PAC deal the last go round. But if academics is a major factor its either the PAC or ACC.

Rankings according to US news and world report.
PAC Stanford 4, Cal 20, UCLA 23, USC 23 (tie),
ACC Duke 8, UVA 26, Wake 27, BC 30, UNC 30, GT 36,

But honestly in terms of rankings there isn't a whole lot of difference between the big 12 and SEC
Tech and WVU really are probably lower rated than the Mississippi schools. I didn't feel like going that far down the list.

SEC West Texas, OU, Arky, Aggy, LSU, MSU, Ole Miss, Mizzou
SEC East Bama, Auburn, Tenn, Vandy, Kentucky, GA, Fl, SC

Makes a whole lot more sense than all the other ideas floating out there.

It will be the Big Ten before the Pac or the ACC. Texas will go where there's the most money to be made without raising the hackles of the academic side. The SEC and Big Ten are (and will remain) way out in front of the Pac and ACC on revenue generation, and the Big Ten is the only one of those that scratches the academic snobbery itch.

Problem with the B1G and the ACC is geographical isolation. That will be a tough sell and it will kill the non revenue sports. It will also make recruiting much more difficult. SEC would make the most sense.

SEC would be fun to watch, but that is a pretty tough league. Remember only one team can come out of that league, so that is a lot of premier teams that won't be making the playoffs.

2 teams could easily come out of the SEC. People realize how tough it is, but I agree it would be the toughest path to the playoffs by far.
