I'm going to watch the NFL draft on Thursday

Looking back on the draft. There were 104 picks in the first 3 rounds. 40 were from SEC schools. Another 10 were from tOSU and that makes 50. Now throw in Clemson and that means more than half of the draftees were from those schools. What this tells me is how far the TX Longhorns have to go to reach elite status again.

And a WHOLE bunch of them will be busts and out of the league in 2 years because most NFL teams' scouting departments are lazy. They see SEC and think that shows reliability to progression and development to NFL contributer.

I may or may not do a 2nd/3rd/4th round analysis to either prove or disprove my point.

I don't wish anything bad on people but I hope you're right.

And a question for you about the Cowboys draft. Correct me if I'm ŵrong I get the impression you follow the Cowboys closely. It appears to me that Stephen Jones is now the one making the decisions on all things player related. Is that true? I'm not surprised that Jerry is the one who goes on tv and says the name that's Jerry's ego but it was still Stephen's decision. Is Jerry really giving Stephen that much freedom?

Well, I went ahead and counted right quick...

Players from Round 2 thru FA signs that made a Pro Bowl

2009 - 17 from non SEC schools, 4 from SEC schools
2010 - 22 from non SEC schools, 5 from SEC schools
2011 - 16 from non SEC schools, 4 from SEC schools
2012 - 22 from non SEC schools, 4 from SEC schools
2013 - 19 from non SEC schools, 5 from SEC schools
2014 - 15 from non SEC schools, 3 from SEC schools
2015 - 8 from non SEC schools, 6 from SEC schools (This was a bad class all around)
2016 - 14 from non SEC schools, 5 from SEC schools
2017 - 11 from non SEC schools, 2 from SEC schools

The amount of UFA's that made a Pro Bowl vs. the amount of SEC players that never played a down of NFL football is quite funny.

Yes, I'm no insider, but from everything I have read and understand, Stephen has pretty much taken over the GM duties in all aspects with the okay of Jerrah, which is understandable. Jerrah rarely gets his way and rarely trumps a move by Stephen.

I would imagine McCarthy was VERY active in this draft without much airtime.

Btw in 2012 Justin Tucker was one of those non SEC players who made the Pro Bowl. As a matter of fact be was an UFA. And I almost forgot to mention Earl Thomas. I'm starting to feel better.

Went ahead and did 2009-2011 totals

ACC - 7 or 7%
Big 12 - 9 or 10%
Big East - 6 or 9%
Big 10 - 3 or 3%
Non BCS - 11 or 9%
Non D1 - 7 or 10%
Pac 10 - 10 or 11%
SEC - 15 or 12%
Notre Dame - 2 or 33%

Side note, in 2010 the Big 12 had 7 first rounders make a Pro Bowl...like wise for SEC in 2011. Wowser.

The difference between the SEC and all other conferences is 1-3 players over a 3 year span. Not negligible either way...like I said.
