Implications of Ewers/Card information. Psychological warfare?

I guess I missed something-- so if I did, someone please fill me in.

About a week ago we were having a conversation about QBs throwing and dropped balls and guys that could make throws and guys that couldn't.
It was clear to me (and I thought most of you agreed) that Ewers was making throws that nobody else could make. He was spotty at times with decision making, but that's to be expected from a teenager.
Then a few days later Ewers is named the starter and everybody has their minds blown.

I know Ketch (and I assume others) said Card would be starting. (I guess Ketch didn't get my memo--good to know he doesn't slum it down here with us pleebs)
But why is everybody so surprised? Are we just banging on Ketch because he was wrong?
Is this another example of us having more/better/accurate info about Texas football than the $9.95ers have access too?

What gives?
The Qb most folks were clamoring for is announced as the starter because of his upside and some act like Garrett Gilbert was announced the starter all over again. Here’s the deal though, I don’t care how bad Ewers may look at times, SARK cannot play musical chairs with his qb’s this year or recruits will jump ship. Ride Ewers like a rented mule come hell or high water just like his NIL contract implies LOL

How do you know it isn’t another Gilbert? This football program should be treated as a precious assett and not a Las Vegas roulett table. Let’s just throw another freshman out there and see what happens. Anyway, I am going to stop my complaining and get behind this team and whoever the coaches put out there.

Hey that’s all you can do as a fan.

I think everybody knew Ewers was going to win the job the day he set foot on campus. I watched the open practice last Tuesday as well and there's no way anybody could have came away from that and thought Card was going to win the job. I was really surprised when Ketch came out and said Card was going to be the starter. But I was guessing that maybe it had to do something with the grasping of the offense and he was going to give Ewers a little bit more time to get acclimated.

I don’t think anybody is surprised on here. I am a little frustrated that Card isn’t starting, but, I am not surprised. I even stated in a previous post that Sark is delaying naming the starter because he is hoping Ewers pulls ahead. I know a couple others prefer Ewers, but are just defending Card from being labeled as worthless based on his freshman year. Apparently, it has been a hard fought battle as it should be. Let’s hope the QB whisperer made the right choice.
If Card wasn't head and shoulders above Ewers at this point then going with Ewers was the right decision. You can't just start the older guy because he has a little more experience. Put the best players on the field regardless of age or experience.

I thought you were predicting that Card had a very good chance of being the starter all along even though I kept telling you that NIL said differently lol

I never predicted Card to be the starter. You have a comprehension problem.

Um do I need to refresh your memory where you continuously chastised me for telling you Ewers would be your starter? Cmon dude admit it, you were wrong and NIL was right. And in case you have forgotten, Arch is your next starter come hell or high water, for better or worse, after his redshirt year

Show me where I specifically said Card will be the starter. You're twisting what I said. I said NIL wouldn't decide who's the starter, which it didn't. Ewers won the job because he's the better QB with more upside. Nothing to do with NIL. Like I said you have a comprehension problem

….and you told all of us how good of a qb Card is….let’s not re-write history my friend. NIL is the undisputed champ here, you should just move on before I’m forced to go pull up your exact quotes lol

Card is a good QB. But if you think Ewers was named the starter because of NIL then I got some ocean front property in Montana to sell you....

It’s nothing to get upset about, it’s the future whether we like it or not. NIL will be dictating a lot going forward

Well, that was the one argument that made the most sense to me. I saw a youtube episode of Ketch, Anwar, Suchomel and Dunlap. I think Ketch basically said the same thing of being in the system a year, his command of the offense should be more distinguishable. Nonetheless, it is just a difference of opinion or school of thought at this point. I still subscribe to all things being equal, go with the mature and more experienced upperclassman.

I just didn't see anything in that open practice Tuesday night that said to me that Card should be the starter. I have been a big Card fan, but when you watch Ewers throw the ball it's just obvious he's more naturally gifted than Card is.

Are you insinuating that Sark thought Card is the better QB?
I’m not insinuating that. I wouldn’t think so. The way the news came out about Ewers being named starter was weird but imo if Sark was ok with Card he wouldn’t have gone after Ewers. It is however, my contention that when Ewers was pursued, I think with NIL being influential, I believe Ewers was possibly told the starting job was his to lose.
