In Predicting Texas/OU, Go With The Average Again

Until proven otherwise, the safest thing to do when predicting the score of the next Longhorns football game is to just go with the average score so far.

Last week, I posted using this theory, noting how remarkably consistent the Longhorns offense and defense have been this year.

Using the average score of the first four games of the season, this method resulted in a predicted core of Texas 35, Kansas 13.

Early in the 4th quarter, before the Longhorns' final TD, the score of the game stood at Texas 33, Kansas 14. The final score of 40-14 was pretty damn close to the prediction.

Adding in the Kansas result, the Longhorns' average game score through 5 games now stands at Texas 36, Random Opponent 13.

Looking at the clear edge this Longhorns team enjoys over this year's OU team at almost every position, that seems like a pretty reasonable prediction.

Go with it.
