Cliffs Notes:
Texas picked up one of the big commitments of the Portal season on Friday night by landing former Georgia wide receiver AD Mitchell.

Rankings: Here's the industry breakdown of Mitchell from his recruiting days...

Rivals: Low 4 stars, No.7 in Tennessee in 2021
ESPN: High 3 stars, No.17 in Tennessee
On3: (95) Mid 4 stars, No.3 in Tennessee
247: (88) High 3 stars, No.8 in Tennessee
247 composite: (.8922) Low 4 star, No.10 in Tennessee

Notable offers: UGA, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee and Virginia.

Evaluation: The 6-4, 190-pound transfer from UGA has battled injuries in his college career, but when he's been healthy, he's been a top-shelf playmaker who makes plays on the biggest stage. A big bodied outside receiver, Mitchell has showed the ability to fight for the ball at its highest point against the best defensive backs in the entire country. Although he's struggled with catching the ball cleanly during his career at UGA, there's no questioning his ability. Had he stayed at UGA for the 2023 season, he was expected to be the WR1 for the two-time defending champions and a player that competed for All-SEC honors.

Why it matters: The Longhorns had a massive WR3 hole on the outside opposite Xavier Worthy throughout the 2022 season once Isaiah Neyor was lost to injury and it was a hole in the offense that tilted the Texas offense off of its axis at times. Going into the Portal to solve this problem means that the Longhorns have a chance to have one of the top receiving units in the country going into the 2023 season if its quarterback play can match what the receiving unit brings to the table in ability.

Expectations: Mitchell is going to compete with Worthy for WR1 honors within the Texas offense, as he slides into the starting spot that was mostly held by Casey cain this season. He should also take a huge weight off of Worthy's shoulders in terms of taking responsibility of the deep balls that Worthy struggled to complete this season. That's a Mitchell specialty. If he can just stay healthy, the world could be his oyster in 2023.

Enjoy!
