Cliffs notes: Surprise! The 13th commitment for the Longhorns in the 2020 class is Winter Park (Winter Park, Florida) corner Ethan Pouncey, who is the brother of current Longhorn Jordan Pouncey.

Rankings:

Key Offers: Many thought Auburn was the team to beat, and in addition to the Tigers Pouncey has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State and Stanford.

Evaluation: Frankly, it’s hard to find any sort of weakness for Pouncey, who looks like he has big-time physical tools as well as instincts and ball skills. Listed at 6-2, 160 pounds, Pouncey is very athletic with length, size, and should add more weight as he matures, although he’s likely never going to be a corner that pushes 200 pounds.

What stands out most about Pouncey is a smooth backpedal, quick hips, and how quickly he fires out of his backpedal to make an instinctive break on the football. He’s especially impressive playing off the line of scrimmage when he can read and backpedal simultaneously, and often feats on poor throws with great hands.

I really, really like this prospect. Pouncey looks like a nationally elite prospect on tape, and perhaps a Rivals100 player.

Why it matters: The future defensive back group at Texas just became even more talented, and while his ranking might not say it currently, this is a big national recruiting win for Texas because everyone in the country wanted Pouncey.
