Cliff-notes: Nacogdoches (Nacogdoches) 2017 corner Josh Thompson became the seventh member of Texas’ recruiting class when he announced his decision to flip his commitment from TCU to Texas.

Key Offers: In addition to TCU and Texas, Thompson holds offers from Indiana, Houston, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas Tech and others.
Evaluation: Thompson is rated as a three-star prospect (5.7 Rivals Rating) by Rivals.com. A couple of things immediately stand out about Thompson both in person and on tape: He knows how to turn and find the football, and he’s physical.
Thompson shows good awareness and ability to track his defender and the football in a way that avoids pass-interference, and allows him to make a play on the football. Being able to quickly flip his hips helps. Also, he’s not afraid to make a hit against the run or use his strength against receivers.
On tape, he jammed one receiver out of bounds, then the next play made a tackle near the line of scrimmage while being held, and then on the next play recognized a toss sweep early at the goal line, and immediately sprinted to a spot to make a play.
This past track season, Thompson ran a 10.98 100-meter dash, was a member of both the 4x200 and 4x100 relay teams, and posted a 41’ 2.50 in the triple jump in 2015.
Why it matters: Gary Patterson at TCU knows a defensive player when he sees one, and anytime the Longhorns can flip one from TCU to Texas it’s a good day for Charlie Strong. Plus, his is another East Texas prospect that’s committed to Texas, and the Longhorns are starting to establish quite a pipeline into that fertile region.
