Is Texas to the SEC an absolute never?

Due to academics and cheating? That is the general impression I get but I wonder if most Longhorn fans feel that is what the Texas administration stance is?

No I am not an SEC fan either.

Depends who you talk to. Aggies will claim that there is an unspoken rule not to admit any other teams that share a state with a current team. Another claim is that all SEC teams have blackball authority. I think the latter comes from the idea that admission requires a unanimous vote.
Another issue, that also would apply to the B1G or Pac, is LHN, although LHN is probably much less of an issue with the SEC, as it could easily be rolled into SEC network since ESPN owns both.
So if you assume that Aggie would be pushed out of the way if Texas wanted in (they certainly would, the financial gain for the other schools is too great) and Texas is paid at least as well in the new conference TV deal as it is currently with Big 12/LHN, what would be the other impediment?

If I'm Texas, I call the SEC and tell them you're willing to shut down the LHN and join the SEC if they'll abandon A&M, since they can have only one school from each state now apparently. Hell, you'd even forego your GOR. It's not like you guys need it. The LHN has probably brought in more money than you'll lose over that.

The only next question would be is: which one of the AAC members will be its new rival?

Isn't ole Miss & Miss St in the same state?

I don't think Texas wants any part of the SEC for a multitude of reasons. I am not one of the Aggies that think it would be easy to block, but I doubt Texas wants it anyway.

Alabama and Auburn, Tennessee and Vanderbilt...but I think they mean they just don't want to add any new same state schools. If that's even true.
yes, that is the claim, hence why FSU has not been added for all these years. Its all Aggie fantasy anyway. There would be tremendous pressure from every other member institution to admit Texas if Texas was interested.

To be honest. If UT were to change conference, every conference would take and work something out with the LHN. The SEC would take UT in a second if UT choose to go. From football point of view, it would be great but from a conference of whole point of view. I say ,No.

Are you saying the SEC or BIG10 would take Texas and let them keep the LHN?

I think they would work something out. Anything can get worked out if all parties want it to. The SEC network is owned by ESPN just like the LHN, so I don't see a problem with merging the two with UT still showing UT content on its own network. The BIG could be a little tricky but anything can be worked out

I only see it working out if the money is shared, or the LHN is no more.. I can not imagine the boys in Birmingham rolling with someone being more than 1 of 14, unless it is them.

If you mean the LHN is rolled into the SEC network, and basically goes away. I think the SEC would say yes. They would probably let the Olympic sports be shown on the LHN (excluding revenue sports), but I don't think that would keep the channel afloat.

The biggest reason I see no other blue blood program joining the SEC is simple. If you have a bunch of great programs in one conference you will end up with no good teams as they will beat each other up and knock each other out of the playoffs. Spread the good teams out among all the conferences and you have a great playoff experience.

Unless you have Saban, the cream always rises to the top. But I agree in general. If a conference is too strong it will prevent the top 4 teams from making the playoffs.

There really isn't anything to merge. If Texas still shows UT content on the LHN, then there really hasn't been any merging.

They offered us a spot in the 80's, we said no. They offered twice in the 90's, we said no twice. They offered again a decade ago, we said no. I don't see us getting any more offers.

To be honest, in the 80's, the aggsy did the Baylor thing and used their influence in the Texas government to block a move to the SEC. When the SEC was 10 teams their idea was expand into Texas and deeper into Florida, they wanted Texas and FSU. When that didn't happen they switched and took USC and Arkansas. Neither has won an SEC title in the 30+ years they have been apart of the conference.

Interesting question. If aggy weren't $EC good in the forest, could anyone hear God moving an immovable rock?

If the $EC happened to take Texas and kick out m&a, what would the aggys do with all their secsecsec flags and t shirts?
If that happened there would be mass suicides. I'm not kidding. They would literally start jumping out of windows. If they lost their sec ties it would destroy them as fans. Plus they'd file like 2000 law suits against the sec to try and stop them.

It would be a site to see

If Texas wants to join the SEC the league will make it happen. Hell, why wouldn't they as it a slam dunk win for all parties involved. A&M would leave and the SECW would consist of Arkansas, MSU, Ole Miss, LSU, Bama and Auburn. If A&M stays we could add OU and move Auburn to the SECE. Either way the SEC would be in great shape going forward.

I wouldn't want it to happen because there's already enough strong teams there. Not that I wouldn't enjoy the marquis games but because the big names need to be spread out for the good of the sport.

Otherwise, you might as well create a new league similar in size to the nfl with only the blue bloods. I'm a diehard Spurs fan but I hate the fact that the championship is the western conf finals. The finals are mearly a formality. I'd hate for cfb to follow suit.
